Lost season 5 episode 6 review

James plods through an episode devoted to his least favourite Lost character… you might imagine, then, how thrilled I was by this episode. Having contrived a situation, we now get to see how things ended up that way. As a viewer, I find it both a little patronising, and a bit self-defeating. We already know the ending, so wheres the tension supposed to come from now? Ironically, after slightly complaining thatLostwas starting to lack structure, it seems the concept has returned in spades....

Sega Megadrive Collection Xbox 360 review

Sega chucks 40 old Megadrive games on one disc. Sega makes Stacy happy. Introducing a new generation to the titles that inspired modern day gaming is no bad thing. Unfortunately, the D-pad tends to force the fingers into uncomfortable angles, rendering this option defunct. Sega have even added a ratings system for each game which can be altered by the player. Like any decent title there are also bonuses to unlock....

The Art of the Film: Watchmen review

The previous sentence should tell you just how excited I am to finally watch it. Although calling him a visionary director, as the market machine seems to do, is a stretch. Its toe curlingly bad) we can see how the film could have ended up. And hopefully the makers ofWatchmenwill respect this decision unlike those behindV For Vendetta. XG Blast Nintendo DS review

A decent top-down shoot ‘em up to waste a few hours with. All you really need to know is at your fingertips shoot anything that moves. The mode is as unoriginal as the rest ofXG Blast, but Id feel short-changed if it wasnt included. Persistence through the early stages pays off soon enough, and the game is enjoyable enough. Rating: 3 out of 5

GTA IV: Lost and Damned Xbox 360 review

Get your motor running and head off out to one of the Xbox 360’s most anticipated releases… Yes people, its here! Chief amongst these is the focus on transport of the two-wheeled variety. After all, what red-blooded, oil-guzzling biker would be seen dead in a four-wheeled motor? Ad content continues below Thats not to say you cant ride, drive or pilot any other vehicles. Other new additions include even more weapons aside from the sawn-off shotgun....

House Of The Dead: Overkill Nintendo Wii review

Can Sega reboot the House of the Dead franchise with Overkill, by throwing in some Grindhouse elements? House Of The Dead:Overkill, meanwhile, could almost be called House Of The Dead: Overhaul. Throw in a fair level of effing and blinding, and family friendly entertainment this absolutely isnt. And yet it works. It really, really works. But there are two caveats to that. Its simply terrifically entertaining arcade gaming, the likes of which weve not seen enough of on the Wii....

Taken Blu-ray review

Liam Neeson drags an at-best ordinary film into something really quite watchable… In essence,Takenis the modern day successor to Mel Gibsons 90s hitRansom. And just likeRansom,Takenis full of holes and problems. Why on earth would a caring father risk their child by going on the rampage? How many contrivances do you’re gonna wanna get yourself back on the scent? How come the local coppers dont interject when you cause all sorts of mayhem?...

The Ricky Gervais Guide to… The Arts audiobook review

Ricky Gervais' new podcast/audiobook! His latest series of highly rated audiobooks are guides to various aspects of the world we live in. As Gervais offers upThe Godfather, Pilkington retorts, wonderfully, withOn The Buses. Of all creatures, how can you tell that a worm turns? Ironically, the audiobooks great strength could also be seen as something of a weakness. Ad content continues below Another word of warning too. If you are easily offended by distinctly un-PC comedy, its perhaps best to avoid this....

Coraline: A Visual Companion book review

Coraline’s weird world is laid out in a fascinating new book.. But how can that same sense of enchantment be transferred to screen? The skills of the puppeteers deserve a goblins crock of gold for their patience alone. It proves that film-making is the product of dedicated teamwork and consummate craftsmanship. He make it a lucid, enjoyable read. Definitely a Companion to take by the hand and walk with through the imagination of Movieland....

Street Fighter 4 PlayStation 3 review

Street Fighter 4: the game that brings the 2D fighter kicking and screaming back to life. With, er, some added 3D for good measure… Street Fighterveterans will be pleased with the gameplay that Capcom has served up. This excruciating attention to detail extends to the backdrops. They are skippable, though, and the mind-blowing introductory sequence more than makes up for some dodgy movies. Its a game that, as well as feeling fresh and new, is steeped in history....

R-Type Dimensions Xbox 360 review

Blasting onto Xbox Live Arcade is R-punch in Dimensions. Mike primes for take-off and surveys the damage… The true refuge of the hardcore nostalgic gamer at the moment is Xbox Live Arcade.
