Moonraker Blu-ray review

Not 007’s finest hour. So can Blu-ray redeem the perils of Moonraker? Its so awful that its actually hard to know where to start ripping chunks off it first. It sets a slap-stick tone that the film never relinquishes, once. Bond fights rubber snakes, henchmen undertakers, Jaws and the urge to utter some frightful dialogue. But then when you think it cant get any dafter, they go into space! Ive no idea why, because other than the lovely models, theyre not very good in places....

Silent Hill: Homecoming Xbox 360 review

Lets give a big, welcome back hug to Konamis long-running survival horror, as Silent Hill comes home. The big question is doesHomecomingbring theHillback to form? The town is silent, eerie, covered in dense fog, and alls clearly not right. This could be annoying to some, but it only serves to heighten the suspense and fear. After all, nothings quite as scary as something in the room with you that you cant see....

Dawn Of War II PC review

There’s an awful lot of war in Dawn Of War II. And Stuart reckons Diablo fans may get a kick out of it… In the future there is only WAR! booms a voice at the beginning ofDawn Of WarII. For anybody not au fait with the world ofWarhammer40,000 let me offer this single paragraph explanation. For a start, theres no base building, resource harvesting or impossibly efficient factories spewing out endless ordinance....

Halo Wars Xbox 360 review

Can the Halo franchise cut it in the strategy arena? Joe has been finding out… Our immediate reaction toHalo Warswas as mixed as that of anyone else. If thats all you care about, you may as well leave it there the rest is just details. Cortana becomes Lt Anders, the battlefield scientist whos tired of being babysat all the time, while Sgt. Forge is a clear substitute for Master Chief, boring nonchalance and all....

The Pink Panther Blu-ray review

Nope, not the Peter Sellers version. Simon launches a (limited) defence of the Steve Martin Pink Panther remake… Ive not lost faith. ButThe Pink Pantherisnt a turgid movie. Its not a great one, but its functional, and occasionally quite funny. Its a bit annoying, but plenty of marks for effort. Likewise, the extras package is surprisingly strong. Sleuth cams, meanwhile, I liked too. The disc also features Beyonce having a sing-song....

Paperboy book review

Still hungry for more, he also scavenged the second-hand book stores for dog-eared paperbacks. It was like watching his own family on screen. Aspirations as a writer revealed themselves in his methodical reviews in an ever-increasing number of notebooks. Fowlers ability to conjure up both the innocent wonder and painful reality of childhood makes for a pleasurable read. No wonder he seemed to be fighting his own personal demons all his life....

Batman Blu-ray review

However, this was all knocked on its head when, in 1989, they released the newBatmanmovie. Not because I hated it, but because I loved it. I also loved the suit, which for me, was far more in keeping with the character. The only thing I didnt like was Michael Keaton in the role. It just didnt fit somehow. This brings me through time and space to modern day, and the Blu-ray version of the same movie....

Castlevania: Order Of Ecclesia Nintendo DS review

The Castlevania franchise trundles on, but its best days are long, long behind it… The gaming giant even found time to go back into the series past for a couple of remakes. Aside from the map screen, the basic structure of the game has changed very little. The more notable enemies are the games bosses, which are interesting right from the start of the game. Some can be downright frustrating, however, especially the crustacean that appears early on in the game....

Franklyn review

Martin’s search for an intelligent science-fiction film is satisfied for the time being… In this city, you have to pick a religion atheism is not an option. On the plus side, its a multi-faith metropolis whose denizens worship everything from Buddha to nail-polish. Sects and cults abound, and the mask-clad Preest tasks himself with rescuing those kidnapped into their clutches. Someone is going to die for what they did to a hostage…...
