Insidious review

Lots of 70s haunted house movies were watched before Insidious went into production, it seems. They have three children and have just moved into a large old house. Things are going great, except for a few little problems. As if that wasnt bad enough, Renai keeps seeing demons and ghosts in their house. And I thought termites were the worst thing you could find in a house you just bought!...

Music in the movies: Trevor Rabin

Need a score for your barnstorming action movie? Then Trevor Rabins your composer. Hes also pretty good with an orchestra, as well see below. As such, were treated to bouts of Rabins lead guitar work to punctuate the action-oriented scenes. Enemy Of The State This is a collaboration between Rabin and Harry Gregson-Williams. Why it needed two composers is beyond me, especially when listening to the end result. Gone In 60 Seconds...

Alfie Allen and Emilia Clarke interview: Game Of Thrones, TV fantasy, HBO and more

Essentially, Im a hostage, but not really, cause Sean Beans lovely. He gives me free run of the castle. Emilia Clarke:I play Daenerys Targaryen, and Im an exiled princess. Im on the run, essentially. I start off as an incredibly submissive creature, who doesnt have her own freewill at all. So, I have no early family at all, and Im very submissive. She has a very creepy relationship with her brother…...

Rio review

Can Rio find a distinction in the increasingly crowded animated family movie market? Theres the reluctant couple. A bit of music. It blends together decently enough, but theres little threat to the movies mentioned just a paragraph back. The story sort of mirrorsRangovery early on, but not for long. Its one of those survival of the species things. And you have to say right here that some of the animation work is simply exquisite....

Rubber review

Can a film about a living, psychotic tyre called Robert really work as a feature film? Heres Marks review of Quentin Dupieuxs exceedingly odd Rubber… Its entirely subjective, of course, but I personally found Dupieuxs arch approach quite grating at times. On the plus side, the third act rescues the film in spectacular fashion. What will makeRubbera difficult watch for some viewers is Dupieuxs assault on their enjoyment of the film....

Looking back at Adventures In Babysitting

(The actors own car and licence plate, no less.) The kids are a bit of a handful. Surrounded by various vagrants and undesirables, Brenda pleads with Chris to come and pick her up. It also marked his directorial debut. Apparently, a third was cut, despite everyone loving the line. Its questionable as to whether or not Thor is actually inAdventures In Babysitting. Certainly, its played up for comedic effect, but its incredibly well handled....

Okamiden Nintendo DS review

The underrated classic, Okami has been shrunk down and squeezed onto DS for a new adventure, Okamiden. Were its sumptuous graphics, inspired by traditional Japanese painting, a little too artistic for most peoples tastes? Was its wolf protagonist too unengaging for gamers more used to playing the part of a human? With the DS stylus, this potentially fantastic mechanic has finally found a natural home. Its a simple yet welcome addition to the originals action adventure gameplay....

Hop review

Hop, for want of a better phrase, is a bit of a hodgepodge. you’ve got the option to probably fill in most of the narrative blanks from there. The first son is EB, the son of the Easter Bunny, voiced by Russell Brand. Hes heir apparent to his fathers job, but has no interest in taking it. Needless to say, daddy (Gary Cole) doesnt approve. It certainly feels longer than it actually is....

Faster review

Physicality will only get you so far in Hollywood, though. Just ask the likes of Olivier Gruner and Ralf Moeller. And I couldnt be happier. So, theres no face breaking here, if thats what youre looking for. But there are so many fine actors squeezed in that no one seems to have enough time to shine. Xander Berkeley was on screen just long enough for me to play the point and shout You did it!...

Looking back at Nicolas Roeg’s The Man Who Fell To Earth

In this sense, he really does fall, Icarus-like, to Earth. Surrounded by temptations, hes dragged down to the level of the mortal sinners around him. I quite the way Roeg leaves so much unsaid, an increasingly rare technique in movie making these days. Apparently immortal, Newton remains unchanged as those around him age. The time period the film covers could actually be quite epic. On an aesthetic level, Roegs film has suffered mixed fortunes....
