The Eagle review
The year is AD140 and Britain is part of the Roman Empire. Was I right to be? Well, yes and no. It is an incredibly intense sequence and so well shot and edited that I felt like applauding. Rating: 3 out of 5

Killing things has been woven into the fabric of videogaming since its earliest days. But where, Harry asks, can games go from here? Videogames are getting older, even as we speak. The reasons for this are manifold, but the one most often cited is the interactive nature of videogames. Thats a discussion for another time. What were interested in is the portrayal of violence. Videogames have always dealt with physical conflict....
So I went to seeNorwegian Wooda few weeks ago. It has endured as a modern classic ever since, and has been embraced by readers over here. So when I found out that film adaptation was imminent, I was definitely excited. This was further fuelled by glowing press reports describing it as lyrical and sumptuous. I was jazzed for it. First things first: it was just all too much. For those who havent seen Norwegian Wood, I apologise for writing such a niche column!...
Matthew McConaughey stars in legal drama, The Lincoln Lawyer. Here’s Mark’s review of an average film with an excellent central performance… In an altogether more unexpected way, I have to speak highly of Matthew McConaughey. Heres how it ends up feeling televisual. A few moderately big names in there, but more importantly, a whole lot of talent. Sounds good, right? And so, casting more well-known actors feels almost like a reflexive move against how televisual it all is....
I picked it up to hear the voice of our editor, Simon Brew, on the other end. Nick, you know how you dressed up as a WWII soldier for the site a little while back? Of course, I did. Well, how would you like to be a Roman? Damn straight I would. Although as it was quite early, I had a nap first. And too expensive to put crew up), he then introduced Reading Universitys Professor Mike Fulford....
Its all impressive stuff, made more so by the series usual array of extra activities. The problem is that its just all very samey. Kamurocho is an interesting venue, but it remains almost identical to the last game. So, if youve played that, theres little in the way of surprises here. I just wish that Sega would evolve the game more, rather than drip feed new ideas. Yakuza 4is out now andavailable from the Den Of Geek Store....
Werner Herzog directs the feature-length documentary, Cave Of Forgotten Dreams. Does it really have a tangible effect on how we engage with films? The drawings themselves are remarkable in their accuracy and vigour. As one anthropologist points out, they look uncannily like Picasso charcoal drawings. Far from crude scrawls, the animals are boldly picked out with great sweeping strokes of the arm. Horses gallop in a bustling herd, rhinos clash horns with palpable violence....
Bradley Cooper plays Eddie Morra, a dishevelled, down-on-his-luck author suffering from an incurable case of writers block. But the films premise and pace mean these are easily overlooked while the theatres lights are dimmed. Eddies a great, picaresque character, a modern-day Faust who sacrifices his sanity for a taste of success. Ultimately, wed all take the clear pill, too, if the opportunity were to present itself. Just look at the poster thats accompanied its release....
Director Duncan Jones follows up his debut, Moon, with fast-paced thriller, Source Code. His reply was, simply, Who could? Heading into the screening ofSource Code, a similar question was at the front of my mind. Ad content continues below I was wrong. This, however, is only a tiny fraction of what the films actually about. But it uses familiar, even generic ideas in a quite brilliant manner. There are recognisable threads ofMoons DNA inSource Code, too....
You might just want to stop everything and get yourself a ticket to Richard Ayoade’s film of Submarine. Its funny, beautiful, imaginative and the final word on awkward, pretentious duffle-coated youth. In other words, Michael Ceras now out of a job. Fittingly for an adaptation of a book obsessed with words, AyoadesSubmarineis obsessed with film. Its a love letter to cinema as much as one to the vagaries of teenage life....
Can Two Worlds II improve upon its hugely flawed predecessor? After such a calamitous release, is Reality Pumps second take onTwo Worldsworth the wait? Quests are also quite varied and are more than simple go here and kill these missions. Its always interesting and you really arent going to find yourself with nothing to do. Upgrade However, this could all be arguably said of the original. It all feels so much better than before youd be forgiven for thinking your playing a different series....
Can The Farrelly brothers recapture their golden touch? Mark checks out Hall Pass, as it finally arrives in UK cinemas… Theres not as much of the sweetness that some of their earlier works made a virtue. Both actresses are better than that, and it sometimes makes it difficult to sympathise with their characters. As a Hollywood comedy, this one obviously plays it safe. How many other recent comedies had you laughing as you left the cinema?...
There’s a lot of overlap between Red Riding Hood and Twilight, argues Ron. But Amanda Seyfriend proves to be a trump card. Here’s his review of the film… Whats a girl to do? Nor should you somehow attract the attention of said werewolf, for that matter. Yes, the core ofRed Riding Hoodis a teenage romance with a youthful female protagonist, just likeTwilight. Its literally forehead slapping, and it reinforces all of the worst messages teenagers get in the current culture....
