Mock The Week audio CD review

Mock The Week works surprisingly well in audio form. Theres little problem with the content itself, of course. It should be noted that those who are easily offended are perhaps best getting their laughs somewhere else. The problem here though is that on a value for money basis, its hard to recommend the CD. Its selling price is 9.99, although we find it online for a couple of quid cheaper....

Pat Sharp interview

Pat Sharp: It was actually very simple, just an interview arranged through my agent. The other guy who was up for it was John Leslie, by the way! DoG: And when you got to the show itself, how were the kids? Were they little sods? Ad content continues below Pat Sharp: They were fine. They were always too nervous to be out of order! DoG: Whatever happened to the twins from Fun House?...

Doctor Who: Night Thoughts audio CD review

Secrets a-plenty come out of the closet in this audio adventure starring the seventh Doctor Who. Mark checks it out. Stationed at the mansion are a group of scientific academics, a young girl and her toy rabbit. Night Thoughtsis in parts very good, in parts really quite bad. Ad content continues below However, for all its qualities, there is much to bemoan here. I have to mention the supposed cliffhangers at the end of each episode too....

FlatOut: Head On Sony PSP review

FlatOut: Head On has some of the finest arcade racing on the PSP, reckons Mike. And explode is the right word: this new version, subtitledHead On, is incendiary in the extreme. FlatOutmode is the real meat of the game in a more sedate simulation, itd be called Career. An impressive game, and one of the finest four-wheel adventures on PSP. Rating: 4 out of 5

Lawless: Criminal Vol 2 review

Frank Miller likes it; but what does James make of Ed Brubaker’s Lawless? 1 was no impediment to understanding in this, Volume 2. Hes not so much morally ambiguous as he is, er, a hardened, remorseless crook. Rating: 5 out of 5

The Club PC review

This dreary atmosphere isnt helped by the graphics The Clubdraws from one of the muddiest palettes Ive ever encountered. To keep the Killbar rising, enemies have to be shot in rapid succession to score Combos. While theres nothing wrong with this,The Cluboften feels like a game struggling to find its own identity. Rating: 3 out of 5

The Robert Rankin ready reckoner

One of Britain’s best-loved authors' work is dissected in the regular Friday ready reckoner. Rob salutes the genius of Robert Rankin. A great sequel, but not quite as unique asThe Antipope. Its more of the same, and its not an easy read as a result. Packed full of weirdness this is Rankin at his best. Good stuff which all comes together in 300 odd pages of madness. The Garden of Unearthly Delights (1996)Another standalone novel....

Doctor Who: Jubilee audio CD review

So the basic premise is the publics perception ofDoctor Who(pre-2005) and his most famous nemesis. Maggie Stables provides a welcome change from the usual companion. Her mature academic Evelyn Smythe spars well with The Doctor, enjoying something approaching intellectual parity. Martin Jarvis character Rochester is reminiscent of his role in the Colin Baker TV serialVengeance On Varos. Jarvis plays a weak leader compromised in trying to satisfy two difficult factions....

The Den of Geek interview: Robert Patrick

I think it was many things. A totally inspired casting decision; similar to an Arnold and yet totally dissimilar in size and stature. I just think I walked in and I embodied everything he was looking for. Im pretty happy with everything Ive done. Was that a quote from a more discontented period? Well, no, I think I still feel like that. Ive made about ninety films now and maybe fifteen of them are good....

The Brightonomicon audio review

A Robert Rankin book, made into an audio play with David Warner, Andy Serkis and Jason Isaacs? We’ll have some of that… Because we all know beer makes nearly everything, including prose, more entertaining. It really works, though. What is inspired is getting David Warner to play Hugo Rune, the star of the book. The story revolves around Rizla, who starts his life with Rune… well, dead. And as such hes indebted to him for saving his life....
