Valkyrie DVD review

Bryan Singer is one of the better directors of his generation. One of his main writers, Christopher McQuarrie, wroteThe Usual Suspects. The cast too seemed just too perfect for the material they were tackling. And therein lays the problem. The disc also comes with two commentaries. The second one is from both writers which is slightly more fascinating, but again fairly self congratulatory. Film: Rating: 3 out of 5

Guitar Hero: Metallica Xbox 360 review

Aaron rides the lightning, hits the lights and spreads justice for all in the next Guitar Hero tour… If the cries of Master! This track list is, for Metallica fans at least, perhaps the best selection ever seen in aGHtitle. Everything here gleams with more polish than a Mister Muscle ad. I would have loved to see an original line up, with Cliff on bass ripping throughMaster Of Puppets. These clips include live performances, and some making of videos that show the band performing the motion capture....

Secret Invasion review

Marvel comics - the place where it’s practically impossible for the dead to stay dead… Or, rather, not back. Luckily though, a great big Skrull ship drops out of the sky and gives him a lead. Unfortunately though, hell doesnt break loose in a good way for either the heroes, nor the readers. Ad content continues below At first, things look good. Fortunately, its not all downhill though. Visually it really is a tour-de-force, even if it does feel a little light on personal style....

8 ways that comic book fans and shops are stereotyped in TV shows

But equally appalling was Claires apparent lack of any prior knowledge of Wednesdays. Even-handed slights were dealt to comic fans and cheerleaders alike. The costume says it all. Though not nearly as maniacal as Elijah Price (Unbreakable) he comes close for a cartoon character. (Harsh language alert)

INDIES: Fireflies In The Garden review

An unexpected family tragedy changes the whole trajectory of his visit. This is the brief synopsis of the film. They play beautifully together in a harmonic and subtly nuanced ensemble piece. Likewise, the relationship between Michael and his aunt Jane remains frustratingly unresolved, and their big secret undisclosed. It is suggested, but it serves no purpose whatsoever as it isnt explored. Whats left for us to sink our teeth into is the thorny father-son relationship....

Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines Blu-ray review

And it chose to hold things off until the eve ofTerminator: Salvations big screen debut. And so here we are. The thirdTerminatormovie, the first without James Cameron, and the one that Arnie clearly did for the money. Its also the Austrian Oaks last major blockbuster movie, and we suspect that might remain the case. To be fair, he could have picked a better way to go. Its the first to seemingly go through the motions, however impressive some of those motions may be....

Interview: Richard Starkings

Recently I caught up with Richard Starkings to talk about his new hardback collection,Elephantmen Vol. 2: Fatal Diseases(available in all good comic shops!) though, due to his long and varied career, our focus shifted onto other areas. Since then, hes never looked back. As an extra in theElephantmennovels you often showcase a wealth of materials from the UK scene, dipping intoCountdownandLook-In. Why do you feel the need to provide a commentary on this time in the UK industry?...

Terminator: Salvation review

To give you an example, just think aboutIndiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull. And the reason I have chosen that example is becauseTerminator: Salvationhas left me with the same feeling. Yet despite Worthingtons strong performance hes never really given enough to make us truly care. Yet nothing of this nature is shown and the purpose of harvesting survivors is never actually explained. Rating: 3 out of 5

Top 10 rites-of-passage movies

Growing up is hard, but at least Hollywood is on hand to walk you through it… Until eccentric leprechaun Gary Oldman decides to grant him his birthday wish an answer to his life. Featuring some superb cameo performances from the likes of Christopher Lloyd, Michael J. ),Interstate 60is really a lost gem. For the young, its a daunting thought. Here’s a spoiler-free Drag Me To Hell review by a horror fan with high hopes. Was Duncan let down or overjoyed by Sam Raimi’s new film? No is the answer.
