Saturday Live DVD Review

Saturday Livebegan as a 90-minute special on Channel Four in 1985. The three main ingredients of a typical show are represented here on three discs. Disc one celebrates the spangly-suited frontman Ben Elton. The first series had been fronted by hosts as diverse as Lenny Henry and Michael Barrymore. This series more so than Eltons BBC series in the 90s showcases his best work. It also underlines just how much hes sold out in recent years with his rock musicals....

The Best Of Never Mind The Buzzcocks DVD review

Fortunately,The Best Of Never Mind The Buzzcockshas arrived to plug the gap. The DVD, basically, splits into three main features that each take a year of the show. But when it all gels, its simply sparkling. Wed have happily taken an extra half hour of lightly-edited material. Its still funny, but the main feature material does set a very high standard. For now, this will do very nicely, indeed, thank you....

The Lovely Bones review

Has Peter Jackson made a success of his film version of Alice Sebold’s The Lovely Bones? Which after reading over the summer, has firmly become one of my favourite books. It is a stunning and emotional representation and the scope is breathtaking. Rating: 4 out of 5

The Polar Express 3D Blu-ray review

It isnt entirely consistent, but more works, generally, than doesnt. Where I think it works brilliantly is in capturing the children and their reactions to the magic of Christmas. Id have quite happily taken more train adventure, and a lot less Santa and his irritating elves. Its difficult to imagine a more suitable festive gift for any animation fan at this time of year. The Blu-ray disc contains both the 3D and 2D release, and all the extras in standard definition....

Top 10 current PlayStation 3 exclusives

What are the best PS3 exclusives available right now? The game is set in the fictitious continent of Europa and takes place in 1935. The Manga watercolor style graphics are ace. The game wont be to everyones tastes, but its well worth a try. Ad content continues below 9. Players take control of Sgt. Little Big Planet I wasnt expecting to enjoyLittle Big Planetas much as I do. I picked it up so that Id have a decent platform game that I could play with my girlfriend....

Bunny And The Bull review

When is a road movie not a road movie? He has also been obsessively keeping and cataloguing everything, from his drinking straws to his urine. Put simply, Stephen is not a well man. ThinkLost, but surreal, British and over in under two hours. Bunny is everything that Stephen isnt; hes loud, impulsive, and a big hit with the ladies. He also has a bit of a gambling problem. In the hands of another director, this could have made for a rather pedestrian Britcom....

Orphan DVD review

Potential foster parents and those who wish to adopt should probably stay away from this movie. This makes the couple flawed and normal. It is the getting there which is more fun for the viewer. The DVD extras are not extraordinary. But, other than that, not a lot to sink your teeth into. Movie: GetOrphan [DVD]at the Den of Geek Amazon Store Rating: 2 out of 5

Rhod Gilbert And The Award-Winning Mince Pie DVD review

This is, as you might expect, a good thing. Only theres ranting, and theres the kind of volcanic tirade that Gilbert manages to generate. Ad content continues below Ironically though, its the quieter moment that we found the highlight of the disc. The man thoroughly deserves the many plaudits being thrust in his direction. The disc itself has a couple of extras on it. Theres a sequence with Gilbert visiting Llanbobl, which is good fun and runs to nearly 20 minutes....

Lee Evans: Access All Arenas DVD review

Lee Evans is a comedy genius. This DVD, however, is not the ideal place to appreciate that. Theres no doubt that Lee Evans is a master of his trade. It would be far more beneficial and entertaining to read each and every book in full. To be honest, this stuff is far more enjoyable. Lee Evans deserves better than this, and so do you.

New Super Mario Bros Nintendo Wii review

Alan Stonebridge takes a trip through the Mushroom Kingdom of New Super Mario Bros on the Nintendo Wii… When news of anotherNew Super Mario Bros.game reached us, we remained stiffly sober. A few years on, wed rather revisit his older adventures. Marios latest side-scroller takes place on your TV, so surely that means epic fun? The answer to that question depends on how you play it. Simply put,NSMBWii looks delightful....

Silverado Blu-ray review

Along the way they run into a stuffy Sheriff played in a very dry fashion by John Cleese. What strikes me now is some well known performers who get remarkably small parts in all this. And, Jeff Goldblum plays a sinister gambler called Calvin Slick Stanhope, where hes suitably menacing. The Disc Blu-ray didnt actually do this movie too many favours, Id suggest. Theres a commentary by notable western historians and writers about this period, but none by Kasdan, curiously....

The Rock Band / Guitar Hero DLC I want to see

Glen offers his choices as to the DLC he wants for Rock Band and Guitar Hero. Which, er, he doesn’t have much chance of getting… The recent release ofBand Herohas seen the developers target a younger audience compared to other titles in theGuitar Herofranchise. I have to say that the track list struck me as being incredibly dull. However, I appreciate that Im not exactly part of the target audience for the title....

24 season 7 DVD review

And if season seven demonstrates one thing, its that24has pretty much lost its ability to surprise. And yet each, in turn, is pretty much pissed away. Ive talked about that elsewhere on this site, so wont be going back there right now. That said, this isnt one of the best. You do get an assortment of commentary tracks and featurettes, but theres nothing particularly riveting or vital here. You do get a good mix of contributors, though, which is a good thing....
