Zoolander 2 gives a facelift to all of your favorite jokes from the 2001 Ben Stiller classic.

But it’s no longer ridiculously good-looking.

But comedy sequels are apparently the greatest challenge of all.

And indeed, abandoned Blockbuster video stores are littered with these half decent follow-ups.

But for some would-be jesters, even this is a tall order.

Take Ben StillersZoolander 2for example.

Everything about the film points to a box office hit and for good reason.

The firstZoolanderwas the perfect zany high moviegoers needed in 2001 while in the shadow of 9/11.

Seriously, who doesnt want to partake in an Orange Mocha Frappuccino gasoline fight right this minute?

A countenance that was once so welcoming is still there, but Blue Steel this aint.

There are certainly elements ofZoolander 2that work, including its very basic premise.

Reportedly, Stiller rejected an earlier treatment for this picture years ago that was written by Justin Theroux.

If only he had remained so choosy.

Zoolander 2is definitely funny in spots with a few standout gags (most of which involve Ferrell).

In fact, everyone is trying their hardest.

Only David Bowie was allowed to take a bow for his fabulous presence.

Nevertheless, it isnt really until about the hour mark thatZoolander 2finds its groove on the runway.

Still,Zoolander 2feels like a missed opportunity.

WhereasZoolandercirca 2001 was perfectly distilled down to the essence of mindless laughter, this is mainly just mindless.

It doesnt help matters that Wiigs secondary villain is a complete misfire.

I must confess that going intoZoolander 2, I set a low bar for the film.

It doesnt even come close.
