This article consists of nothing butWonder Womanspoilers.

TheWonder Womanmovie is now on HBO, and it expands the DCEU in new and exciting ways.

And oh yeah, its packed with DC Comics references.

That story featureda different characters monologuebut it still contained a similar message.

She also mentions a Great Darkness thats surrounding the world.

Again, this reminds me ofRebirth, but it also calls to mind the villains ofthe upcomingJustice Leaguemovie.

The Great Darkness Saga.

While that story has nothing to do with Wonder Woman, its awesome and you should read it.

You may notice that the license plate on the Wayne Enterprises armored car starts with the letters JL.

(Its JL-828-VZM to be exact).

One other thing we just found out (andthanks toScreenRantfor bringing it to our attention).

Zack Snyder has a cameo in the movie.

The exceptional brutality of World War I is the perfect counterpoint to Dianas relative innocence.

How powerful was Wonder Woman?

you’re able to guess who the other two were.

That same story introduced Steve Trevor.

Etta Candy didnt come along until about two years later inSensation Comics#2.

Incidentally, the civilian version of Etta that we meet here is more in line with those early comics.

In more recent DC history, Etta is a military woman and quite the badass.

For one thing, nobody flies a plane.

As far as I can tell, these were all characters invented for the movie.

In the original comics, Diana was indeed sculpted from clay and given life by the gods.

A lot of people dont love this change, but Ive always been kinda down with it.

I react the same way, except with doggies.

Im going to get my typing fingers bitten off petting strange dogs one day.

While were on the subject of Amazons…I didnt realize that Ann Wolfe was credited as Artemis.

Not be confused with the Greek goddess, the Amazon version of Artemis.

At one point in the comics, she briefly replaced Diana as Wonder Woman.

Maybe theyll be the villains ofWonder Woman 2…

Dr. Poison/Dr.

Maru is one of Wonder Womans earliest comic book foes, first appearing in 1942sSensation Comics#2.

Like Diana, Steve, and Etta, she was created by William Moulton Marston and Harry G. Peter.

There are two funSuperman: The Movieinspired moments when they get to London.

I feel like Dianas brief struggle with a revolving door is one.

But the other is more overt…

But nowhere is that more apparent than in the alleyway where Diana and Steve are accosted by German spies.

This is a lovely homage to Christopher Reeves Clark Kent catching a muggers bullet meant for Margot Kidder.

Steve brings everyone Edgar Rice Burroughs novels.

Likely, one of the gifts from her namesake.

That sequence also pulls visual cues from an iconic wartime melodrama,From Here to Eternity.
