The problems keeping Macross properties released outside of Japan are more complicated than you might realize.
Robotechhas a unique history that could have only come about in the 80s.
WhileRobotechgarnered a legion of fans,Macrossitself began to slowly accrue its own fanbase outside of Japan.
Since its debut,Macrossspun off many sequels and companion series without any connection toRobotech.
In the 90s several of the series were released outside of Japan includingMacross IIandMacross Plus.
Since then noMacrossseries, except the original, orMacrosstoys have been officially released outside of Japan.
To many fans ofMacross, the blame is solely placed at Harmony Golds feet.
Why arent fans seeing any otherMacrossproducts outside of Japan?
According to the team at Harmony Gold, its very complicated.
Its just something we cant comment on.
If you notice, the Japanese dont comment on it either.
Theyre very quiet about it to.
Theres a reason for that.
Its a very complex issue.
When it comes to Robotech, its difficult to comment.
Its not something I can talk about openly, as this possibly became a court case.
So McKeever is correct that neither side is able to open up about it.
That doesnt stop rumors spreading aboutRobotechand Harmony Golds part in all of it.
In brief summary, it says Harmony Gold could lose the license to the series that make upRobotechin 2021.
Were not going to comment on it but we hadnt had issues extending our licenses in the past.
And we want to work for them and we want to bring them everything that they want.
Thats what we want.
McKeever stresses that the passion fans show about bothRobotechandMacrossis appreciated and it demonstratesRobotechstill has an impact to this day.
Davis makes sure to add however,
I just think there are lines there.
If you have an opinion?
If you have passion?
Im good with critiques and criticism.
Im fine with all that.
Just dont be personal.
People dont know us.
They dont know me.
They dont know my family.
Thats where its not cool.
Everything else is fine.
