Luc Besson’s Valerian is a psychedelic sci-fi wonderland so imaginative that it overcomes its rather stilted core.
Like the Devil,Valerians quality is in the details.
At times, gloriously so.
The originalLa Femme Nikita, Leon,andThe Fifth Elementall linger as peculiar cult classics.
So it is thatValerianbounces between visuals and aesthetics like a tie-dye themed pinball machine.
That these are also the bigger spieces source of space travel power just makes it more appealingly nutty.
DeHaan is a very good character actor who is not-so-convincingly cast as a Han Solo punch in here.
Which is a shame, because that journey is the pictures greatest asset.
