We count down our five favorite video games of the year.
Who took the top spot?
To say that this was the biggest year for gaming yet is probably a bit cliche at this point.
This year saw the return of Nathan Drake, a brand newFinal Fantasyinstallment (finally!
), and Marcus Fenixs son inherited his fathers Lancer.
I hope the industry continues in that direction.
But now we have our five and we stand by them.
The five games we chose exemplify great gameplay design, wonderful presentation, and a compelling narrative.
Luckily, this sequel to the fantasticHuman Revolutionreminded us.
WithDeus Ex, story is always what you have to come back to in the end.
The writing inMankind Dividedis powerful, well thought out, twisting, and full of amazing science fiction.
This is definitely our favorite RPG of the year.

In fact, if youre not fast enough with those dishes, your whole team is doomed to fail.
Behind the charming presentation and upbeat music is a very intense game.
Dont let its friendly vibe fool you.
Recipes and orders get more complicated as your progress through the games many worlds.
Getting three stars on any given level can be a frustrating endeavor, but its ultimately very rewarding.
The cooperative experience is what setsOvercookedapart and makes it the best title in its niche genre.
This is undoubtedly our favorite indie of the year.

Naughty Dog has a long history of great storytelling, and Nathans final adventure (?)
And along comes Nathans longlost brother, Sam, to make things even more complicated.
The gameplay retains much from past installments, but thats not a gripe.
Again, if it aint broke, dont fix it.
But seriously, play the first three before picking upUncharted 4.
You wont be sorry.

Whats even more remarkable about this fast-paced action game is how familiar the controls feel.
This newDoomdoesnt feel like a relic from the past, though.
If theres one revival that deserves all of the praise its received, itsDoom.

WhileOverwatchlacks a story campaign wed really love to play one, Blizzard!
it more than makes up for it in personality.
It all comes down to Blizzards signature polish.
The company delivers a shooter for the old and the new.
Its just too charming to ignore.
