The Walking Dead midseason finale was a relatively quiet affair.
Here’s our review…
ThisWalking Deadreview contains spoilers.
HowThe Walking Deadcould deliver a series of bloated episodes without saying much of interest is beyond me.
The shows definitely changed since the Negan introduction and not for the better.
The reunion was predictable from the moment the writers decided to split the characters up.
The group always seems at its lowest right before it rises again and vice versa.
Theres nothing particularly wrong with seeing these characters rise up again.
Yet, Ive grown really tired of watching the same beats unfold time and time again.
But how do you break that formula?
The group certainly cant eat shit all the time, but it also cant just kick ass every episode.
Just like last year.
And the year before.
And the year before.
She showed courage when faced with Negan.
Thats something Rick and Spencer forgot along the way.
(Deanna might have been proud.)
Of course, Spencers plan backfired much like it did in the comics.
As Negan made clear while gutting Spencer, the villain values strength over everything else.
Thats why Carl gets to live and babyfaced Spencer doesnt.
In the end, Spencers death was pretty predictable and Im glad that its come and gone.
Ive complained a lot about Negan in the past few weeks.
It helped that he wasnt a walking meme generator tonight.
These writers just cant help themselves.
This episode could certainly have been an hour long.
How do I know that?
It was like a season 6 refresher course that was hard to watch.
Because we all know shell be killing again by the time the season is over.
I love watching how much her presence bothers the cowardly Gregory.
I suspect shell be in full command of the settlement by seasons end.
), but it really was the only way out of a sticky situation.
It said a lot about Negans rule that the Savior actually wanted Michonne to kill her.
Id like to see Daryl get some sweet revenge in the spring.
So here we are.
One half of a season down and another to go.
CanThe Walking Deadturn things around come February?
They need to trim the fat and pick up the pace.
The audience has suffered enough.
