The new Tommy Lee Jones and Hilary Swank movie is a western in name only.
But is The Homesman worth the ride?
Here’s our review…
There is something dauntlessly optimistic about westerns.
Hes reinventing himself with nothing to his back but big sky and big country.
Perhaps that is whyThe Homesmanis not a westernnot really.
Sadly, they still remain fairly unsung by the end of this muted and laborious love letter.
And on that front,The Homesmansows its seeds deep.
The Homesmanis a beautifully stoic film to look at that finds its quiet resolve in its decidedly unquiet characters.
Jones, meanwhile, has the best role in the movie.
It is a disquieting and sorrowfully real idea thats too often glossed over in fiction.
