Den of Geek takes a look back at the best and worst moments in the Hitman video game series!

A newHitmanmovie is out today, andits a big missed opportunity.

No one can seem to get the character and his world just right.

You might think itd be impossible to have all the Hitmen working side by side, but theyre clones!

This is exactly what theyre for!

Which is why we got a little creative with this retrospective of the series history.

Of course, it wasnt a perfect outing, but it was a start for the franchise.

The new kid is always deeply flawed.

The brash new boy has become smoother, slicker, and significantly more intelligent.

Silent Assassinis still the best-selling entry in the series.

47 is a professional at this point, and can adapt to any situation.

In fact, the whole point of the play style is that nobody can really stop you.

But youll be missing out on the true rewards.

InSilent Assassin, 47 is an artist instead of a mass-murderer.

This would be the straight-to-TV entry in the action movie franchise.

A movie where youre not just the player but the scriptwriter, director, stuntperson, and star.

IfSilent Assassinwas the artist,Blood Moneyis the masterpiece.

WhereSilent Assassincleaned up the earlier mistakes,Blood Moneywas free to improve on the original strengths.

Hollywood only tries to make movies because it cant directly film the experience of playing this game.

This game is the movie, and the opera assassination is the climax.

Although its even better if you hang around to explode a chandelier onto his accomplice.

This isnt just the bestHitmanlevel ever made, its one of the best video game levels ever created.

(Which may be why they released it twice, teamingBlood Moneyup withContractsandSilent AssassininHitman Trilogy.)

AndHitman: Absolutionis that disaster.

These are all thingsHitman: Absolutionabsolutely did when some people tried to play it on release.

This was a game where the gameplay was massively simplified.

Doesnt sound very professional to us.

Sometimes they have to be bribed or extorted into returning to the trade.

Because forcing someone much better at killing than you is such a good idea.ExceptHitman Goreally is a great idea.

This Hitman has retired to whittle wood, and its gorgeous.

Its a masterful representation of the main series.

The board game theme removes the need for expensive graphics without looking weak or reverting to overexposed retro graphics.

The Cameo

Every ensemble movie has a cameo.

Either that or they simply couldnt afford the actor for the whole movie.

The cameo only appears in a single scene.

Which isnt as cheap as youd first think.

Its only a cameo, but its a perfect cameo, capturing this single level-learning aspect of the franchise.

Escalating missions exist only to unlock new weapons and encourage you to try different kill techniques.

As it is, its merely brilliant.
