This Supergirl review contains spoilers.

Of fighting for something better, even and perhaps especially when it isnt easy.

Mon-El makes a choice.

Many viewers would be glad to see Mon-El gone fromSupergirl.

Privileged dudebros get almosteverymainstream story.

Cant they let us haveSupergirl?

I do get that, and think its a valid way to respond to this storyline.

(Not that there is an invalid way to respond to your favorite media.

No TV critic has jurisdiction over your fannishness.)

For me, however, Mon-El has been an important part of theSupergirlnarrative.

(Though, unacceptably, seemingly at the expense of a storyline for James Olsen.)

Its one of the reasons why I likeMad Max: Fury Roadso much.

If they choose to change.

It shows what that might look like.

It argues that it is never too late to make a different choice, to make a better choice.

Mon-Els mom is the worst.

But, I digress!

Rhea has been traveling across the stars for years looking for her son.

Luckily for Mon-El, Kara doesnt let her boyfriends get kidnapped by their parents.

Family means no one gets left behind, bitches.

Queen Rhea has power/control/sociopath issues.

She kills her husband for letting Mon-El go and turns her gaze back on Earth.

Shes not done with it yet.

Alex and Maggie continue to have the best relationship.

If that sounds like only part of the story, it was.

The things shes ashamed and embarrassed of.

The latter goal doesnt leave much room for mistakes, for being human.

The former is a much more realistic goal.

LikeThe Flashbefore it,Supergirlrecognizes that being good (i.e.

compassionate, empathetic, and kind) isnt something that youre born with.

Its something that you choose and not once, but again and again.

Its also something you get to choose, even if you have made different choices in the path.

Even if you have been the bad guy before.

How can you not root for these two?

Additional thoughts…

Turns out books have a lot more information than YouTube.

Like Rheas ultimatum, this is also a false dichotomy.

They are simply mediums for information.

You dont have to choose!

Kara continues to be out of a job.

Is that what they mean by helicppter parenting?

Is President Marsden a good alien or a bad alien?

Is she working with Queen Rhea?

So was yoga as awful as you thought it would be?

Alex knows what she likes.

Hey, thats me!

Kara has the sweetest response to her bounty hologram.

We talking about a planet in a good neighborhood or a hipster up-and-coming kind of vibe?

Hey, thats a very palatable way of putting it.

This episode gets extra points for having some great moments of light humor.

Tese databases wont search themselves.

Actually, they will.

Seriously, I dont write enough about how funnySupergirlSeason 2 has been.

You work here as a servant.

I would have to peel you off of me like some gangly little maggot.

Queen Rhea, being maternal.

I wuold rather die than leave Earth without you.

This seems especially ominous after watching the whole episode.

We saved each other again.

Just like Romeo and Juliet.

You really need to finish reading that.

There was both a laser-off and a telepathy-off in this episode.

What a time to be watching superhero TV.

Thank god I am not in space.

You are in space.

Arent you a little short for a Storm Trooper?

You finally saw Star Wars!

Mon-El truly is a citizen of Earth, now.

All I want if for my family to be together.

Thats what I want, too.

You came after me.
