Star Wars Episode VIII is officially called The Last Jedi.
What does this title tell us about the movie?
One quality that many of these titles seem to share is that theyre telling, but also ambiguous.
The movies intent is clear and youre sitting in the audience along for the ride.
At first glance,The Last Jediworks on the same level.
This is the story of Luke Skywalker the one we didnt get inThe Force Awakens.
For one thing, it doesnt only have to refer to Luke.
Upon hearing the title, many fans became worried that Johnsons film would kill off the Jedi Master.
After all, the word is both singular and plural.
Sort of like Akira KurosawasSeven Samurai.
The Last Jedicould also refer to a whole group of people.
What if its in reference to the old Jedi Order?
A secret of the Jedi that could finally defeat the dark side once and for all?
Yes, its true that the title perhaps doesnt beg any further examination.
It seems so cut and dry.
So direct and intentional.
This movie is about Luke, which is what many of us expected.
