But thirty years later, how doesTMP(as Trekkies call it) match up?

I think more than anything, the whole thing was a pretty risky move.

I guess what it boils down to is that this was Roddenberrys attempt at2001.

For instance, theres very little urgency.

I mean, its over half an hour before we even leave space dock.

I realize the film was barely finished before it got released, but it needs a huge editing overhaul.

For example, the wormhole sequence.

However, the film is frequently beautiful.

On Blu-ray, the film generally looks fantastic.

Obviously, Paramount werent big fans of future-proofing.

But for a thirty year old film that wasnt ever properly finished, it looks fantastic.

The blaster beam reverberated up my spine many a time, and the score has a prominent role.

Its really dry and just really boring, and like an audio version of the text commentary.

These people may be involved in lots ofTrekbut they dont come across like they have much enthusiasm for it.

To replace the text commentary, there is a feature called Library Computer.

The last new feature is a weird mini-doc presented by a sexy Australian girl in aDeep Space Nineoutfit.

Its cute, but a bit of fluff, really.

But Im sure its fun.

True, the camaraderie from the series isnt there, but the effort is.

Probably not, but there are always possibilities.
