Martin Scorsese reunites with Leonard DiCaprio for the film of Dennis Lehane’s Shutter Island.
But is it any good?
Here’s our spoiler-free review…
Lets face it, cinematic realism is a red herring.
It is a flickering lie, and it fills our eyes with illusion and magic.
At its most immediate,Shutter Islandis a spot-on exercise in tension and mystery.
Stylistically, the film mirrors this, pitching between the posts of the Gothic and the Surreal.
Mystery soon gives way to madness, however, as Daniels sanity starts to unravel under the islands influence.
