Russell Crowe and Ridley Scott bring Robin Hood back to the big screen.
But is there more to it than Gladiator in the woods?
If their plan was to deliver a Robin we havent seen before, then its mission accomplished.
Like a superhero origin story (think 2008sIron Man), they want to start from the beginning.
Of course, Scott and Crowes take onRobin Hoodwas always going to be different.
Arrows pierce limbs and axes thump into soft flesh.
But this isnt an action film in the way many will be hoping.
Amidst all this is the films love story, Cate Blanchetts Marion as feisty a warrior as Robin himself.
The biggest casualty is that films trump card, the Sheriff of Nottingham.
You have to pity Matthew Macfadyen.
Its not a promise Scott and Crowe will likely deliver on.
Although that doesnt seem to have stopped him here.
It hits upon the mix of action, drama and romance it didnt have room for before.
