On Farscape’s 20th anniversary, we revisit The Peacekeeper Wars, the miniseries that wrapped it all up.
Whether or notThe Peacekeeper Warswas strictly necessary from a storytelling point of view is debatable.
Farscapeopened with John Crichton getting shot through a wormhole and trying to get home.
In Bad Timing, Crichton closes that door forever.
Even Scorpius has a girlfriend in Sikozu (poor Braca).
Overall, the miniseries is a pretty satisfying experience.
Although Bad Timing provided a sense of emotional resolution,The Peacekeeper Warsprovides actual plot resolution.
Plot-wise, the chief flaws inTPKWrelate to the need to cram fifteen hours of planned story-telling into three.
The focus ofTPKWis, of course, the wormholes/Scarrans/Peacekeepers story.
Evil Peacekeeper Grayzas pregnancy was forced by the fact actress Rebecca Riggs was pregnant, so couldnt be helped.
Chalk it up to human/Sebacean cross-breeding weirdness).
But these are minor niggles; overall,TPKWprovides an exciting and satisfying end to the series.
If it had to end, this is as good a way as any to do so.
