Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol review

To say this particular sequence is exhilirating barely does it justice. Because mark this as a franchise back on track. Appreciating thatMission: Impossible IIIwas quite warmly received, I was never that sold on it. Save for one or two impressive sequences, it was a long away from Brian De Palmas franchise opener. Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocolis a whole lot surer, at least for three quarters of the way. From that confident opening, the pieces of the plot fall into place....

Dizzy: Prince Of The Yolkfolk iPad review

The 8-bit game hero Dizzy returns in a HD remake of 1991s Prince Of The Yolkfolk. Heres Petes review of a great comeback title… I wanted to be an egg. As well as the puzzles, of course, theres the jumping. Back in the 80s and 90s, Dizzy was little short of a grinning, rolling maniac. In this remake, however, thats less of a problem. The jumping isnt the only aspect of the gameplay thats been tweaked for the better....

Happy Feet Two Xbox 360 review

In the wake of the penguin-infested sequel comes the inevitable videogame tie-in. The only problem with this is the size difference, which makes things a little confusing at times. Of course, some children may not want to progress, preferring to simply make their penguins dance. Its all very good-natured, adding nothing and everything to the plot of the film. it’s possible for you to rent or buyHappy Feet TwoatBlockbuster.co.uk. Rating:...

Mario Kart 7 Nintendo 3DS review

Nintendos venerable arcade racer arrives on the 3DS, but is Mario Kart 7 any good? Heres Philips review… Let me take you back to 1992. A year when the biggest battle in videogames was Nintendo versus Sega. A time long before Sony even ventured into the console market. When Microsoft was still purely a computer company. When a handheld console was the size of house brick and played games in good old black and white....

Another Earth review

A low-budget film full of high-concept ideas, Another Earth is Mike Cahills debut feature. Heres Ryans review of an atmospheric sci-fi drama… Its a great idea, but one only lightly explored inAnother Earths 90-minute duration. In her absence, a duplicate of Earth has appeared, and now hangs ominously in the sky. Are their lives mirror images of ours, or have their paths subtly diverged? Elsewhere, a space tourism company holds a competition....

Harry Potter: Julie Walters, Bonnie Wright, James and Oliver Phelps, Warwick Davis, Natalia Tena and Tom Felton interviews

What memories in particular stand out for you all from your first and last days on set? Bonnie Wright:Mine were actually on the same set, on Platform 9 34. It was a kind of creepy. Julie Walters:A perfect circle! Because theres no rehearsal you think, How am I going to play it? and all of that. Happy Feet Two interviews: George Miller, Elijah Wood, Sofia Vergara, Robin Williams

One is a holiday from the other. Almost unconsciously, Im drawn to the hero myth. I like to work in fables or myths, not naturalistic film storytelling. So I think thats whats in common in the stories. Im drawn to filmmaking because of a kind of curiosity. Its an opportunity to test the craft more. In a way, the story carries you along. I dont see myself as a professional filmmaker yet....

Looking back at Terry Gilliam’s Time Bandits

Chaotic, dark, philosophical and very, very funny its Terry Gillliams Time Bandits. Jim Broadbent plays a macabre game show host, who Kevins parents watch while sitting in shrinkwrapped armchairs. Ad content continues below As withJabberwocky, Gilliam is clearly trying things that are nigh-on-impossible to great effect. When six dwarves stumble out of his cupboard the next night, they arent very friendly. Like the horse, they seem very real and dangerous, as does the supreme being who appears....

And she spared us a bit of time to have a chat about it… Is that a perception youre battling? I dont think shed heard anything like that before… Ad content continues below Maybe she needed to! [laughs] I dont think I battle it, I think battle is quite a strong word. I think people who see me on the telly, I dont think my gig is massively different. Its ruder, and theres more swearing in it, but its live....

How anime and videogames work in tandem

Since the dawn of arcades in the 70s, designers sought to bring a cartoon-like look to their games. Ad content continues below As the American games market collapsed, Japanese consoles soared in popularity. From an industry standpoint, the NES is perhaps the most significant console ever made. The NES was also important from a cultural standpoint, too, which is something often overlooked. Some videogames even became popular enough to spawn their own animated TV shows....

Our enduring fascination with The Thing

There is now a third movie in what could now be referred to asThe Thingfranchise. There has consistently been a new movie version ofThe Thingevery 30 years or so since 1951. Who Goes There?first appeared in the pulp magazine Astounding Stories in 1938. It is a well-written piece of short fiction that gets a lot of mileage out of a simple premise. Once the alien thaws, it comes to life....

Robin Williams interview: Happy Feet 2, Call Of Duty, playing bad guys and more

Williams speaks fast, and laughs often. When hes being himself though how can you tell? his vocabulary is full of like, dude and big time surf-speak. He nimbly evades anything getting serious by driving his answers full steam into entertaining anecdotes or gags. He is both brilliant and completely exhausting. Yes, Okay, Im in, George [Miller, director] is there right? So thats kind of the prerogative, the parameters now with new films for doing acting roles....

Take Shelter review

Michael Shannon and Jessica Chastain star in Jeff Nichols' apocalyptic drama, Take Shelter. Here’s Michael’s review of a brilliantly acted film… Those fathers knew best because they lived in uncomplicated worlds governed by simpler ideals. Nevertheless, this work is almost undone by an utterly confounding rug-pull of an ending. Its also something of a red herring. Unfortunately, its a black hole, and could nudgeTake Shelteroff its course towards greatness. Whether it achieves such standing or not,Take Sheltersucceeds in something quite impressive....
