Archer: The Honeymooners, Review

David Crow gives us a look into the 9th episode of Season 4. Oh, Archer and Lana. Youre like the Ross and Rachel of unprofessional espionage. The Sam and Diane. The Arsenic and Old Lace. Except this honeymoon is surely no pleasure cruise. The episode opens with the two undercover as a just married couple in a swanky New York hotel. But Archer is just having far too good of a time....

Community: “Advanced Documentary Filmmaking”, Review

Joe Matar gives us his view on the “mockumentary” episode. Another week, another episode that technically feels like Community. Its done in documentary style, making for the third time the series has ventured into this territory. So what was the point of using the format this time around? Well, Im not really sure. It makes sense enough for the storyline. But it doesnt feel like anything new is being done with the documentary style....

God of War: Ascension (PS3), Review

So how does Ascension hold up to the rest of God of Wars incredible legacy? This decaying/healing dynamic is a wonderful addition to the game, and makes for some really cool environmental puzzles. Sometimes it seemed you couldnt take two steps without having Kratos start to slide down another structure again. There are also new button-less QTEs, which challenge you to perform cinematic kills without any onscreen instruction. A good idea in theory, but one that falls a bit short in execution....

Psych, Lassie Jerky/The Hair Witch Project

Mix it all together and it is one delicious Pineapple Smoothie of an episode. Normally I am not crazy when the guys leave Santa Barbara. Its not justPysch, its any show that I really dig. For the record I thought the casting could have been better for the two college kids. The banter between them feels forced and uninvited. Gus hyper-obsessiveness is at its best when he is totally out of his element....

The Toolbox Murders (1978) Review

The Toolbox Murders was American Psycho and Natural Born Killers before the NRA started… Lord help us, what did these pictures say about the state of the culture? The police became interested in these studies, as did the government. Will these people never learn? Apart from Cameron Mitchell, Donnelly did have two other things going for him. The plot is a simple one. But what do you expect for a $165,000 movie?...

Tucker & Dale vs. Evil (2011), Lookback/Review

From the Recesses of Netflix we pull Dale and Tucker vs. Evil, directed by Eli Craig and come out laughing until we cry . Tucker & Dale vs Evilis by far the best film we have discovered on Netflix. Is it a horror movie? Is it a comedy? We would like to create a new genre for this classic. Lets call it a slapgore bromantic comedic satire. This film is actually a fairly sophisticated comedy of errors....

Workaholics: The Line, Review

Nick Harley continues our review of Season 3 with this, the 19th episode. Though these can be familiar, the best sitcoms can take these frameworks and put their own unique stamp. Workaholics does this like no other sitcom on television. Its bizarre, unconventional, and completely hilarious, just like all the best Workaholics episodes. This doesnt matter for Adam though, and he goes in search of the game store. (ShamelessThe Walking Deadplug and screen capture....

The Following: Welcome Home, Review

I wonder what is going to happen once the young Agent goes back to his no-name motel. If the predictability police were on duty, there would have already been several arrests in this episode alone. Dont get me started on the series in its entirety. David Fincher, where are you?? Hes busy producing a great show called House of Cards that I am reviewinghere. Sorry, shameless plug.

SimCity (PC), Review

It’s only truly a SimCity if your city has internet connection issues, right? Why did it take so long? For those who live under a rock, EAsSimCityhas had a launch week from hell. In fact, I cant recall any other launch that has been botched this badly. There have been all sorts of issues with this games launch. First, gamers (including me) couldnt even download the game from Origin. And then it got even uglier....

Workaholics: Hungry Like The Wolf Dog

Nick Harley’s take on Episode 18 as Season 3 continues. We saw the show experiment with action sequences, horror tropes, and changes of scenery. Tonights plot goes a pretty conventional route and its sort of upsetting to see. Without an instants hesitation, Gillian arrives to chauffeur the gang to the burrito joint. Its fun to throw Gillians innocent naivete in the mix with the guys hedonistic lack of self-awareness. A lot of the humor comes from being stuck in the woods....

Age of Ultron #1 (Marvel) Review

The first crossover of the Marvel Now! era is here, and it’s got heavyweights Brian Michael Bendis and Bryan Hitch behind it! Welcome to Age of Ultron #1! Now, Pyms motivation was to make up for Ultron. Ultron added levels to Pyms character that werent there before. Writers like Kurt Busiek punctuated theirAvengersruns with memorable Ultron stories. Now, Bendis has finally delivered a post-apocalyptic tale of a future ruled by Ultron....

Californication S06 E08, Review

A review on this week’s episode: “Everyone’s a F**king Critic”. No, we won’t un-censor the name. Hank is methodical, just as many writers are, when finally immersed in his work. Hes a professional when he has to be and an asshole whenever he isnt trying to be. That is where we pick up the story in Everybodys A F**king Critic. The younger generation might have trouble getting started, but even established writers are struggling to connect these days....

Oz, The Great and Powerful, The Comic Book Brain

..Great, Now I have a Wicked Witch Fetish. A Review of Oz, the Great and Powerful. Over the last decade, films that have relied on nostalgia have had varying degrees of success. As a child, surviving the Wicked Witch is a rite of passage. The characters are as part of Americana as anything invented in the past century and a half of film. Getting there was the trick, and thankfully, Raimi had a hell of cast to help him succeed....
