Romeo and Juliet, Review

To be fair, adaptingRomeo and Julietin any age is difficult. The story more than permeates the culture; it IS the culture. For my own, it was the experimental 1996 adaptationRomeo + Julietby cinematic madman Baz Luhrmann. No, he only uses the occasional famous line, usually as an exclamation point for every scene. Unfortunately, as pretty as the actual Renaissance frescoes and decorations are, they serve a hollow center. Likewise,Romeo and Julietstars Douglas Booth and Hailee Steinfeld are left out to dry by this gilded production....

Machete Kills, Review

Like a Bizarro Quentin Tarantino, most Robert Rodriguez’s films really star the director and his weird decisions. Machete Kills again makes for a good joke worthy the length of a trailer. But a SECOND feature film?! Rating: 2.5 out of 5

Walking Dead Season Three: 7 Ways the Show Changed the Comics

We examine 7 of the most obvious differences. The Walking DeadSeason 3 sped through the equivalent of four graphic novels worth of story. In the comic, the prisoners, one in particular, played a more vital role. These four ended up testing the morality of the comic survivors like nothing else they encountered before. Axel is very similar to how he is portrayed in the show. Thomas was a mousy little man who claimed he was in prison for white collar crime....

Sleepy Hollow: The Lesser Key of Solomon, Review

Evil Germans, Ammonite gods, and a timeline-defying Boston Tea Party, oh my! It’s another week in the genre-warping world of Sleepy Hollow. Rating: 3 out of 5

12 Years a Slave Review

12 Years a Slave is an unflichingly authentic masterpiece that peers into an institution whose effects still reverberate. And in his intended sense, he more than succeeded. The movie opens in 1841 upon a relatively happy and content Solomon (Chiwetel Ejiofor). Like Solomon, we rationalize the horror and underhanded evil far too late. Ad content continues below That is only the first 15 minutes. Solomons despair is so methodically institutionalized that even Hans Zimmers score rarely stops in its mechanical hiss toward oblivion....

Boardwalk Empire, Erlkonig, Review

Loyal friends go down. Thats life on the Boardwalk, where its too close to the ocean for tears to make much difference. Lets start with Clayton. Claytons what the press calls collateral damage. Masters of Sex: Race to Space, Review

For a man obsessed with sex, Bill Masters certainly can be the sexist. Luckily in the more darkly comical episode, he may still find his perfect partner in Virginia. Rating: 3.5 out of 5

The Simpsons: Treehouse of Horror XXIV, nearly a classic. The Simpsons annual Treehouse of Horror episodes stand apart from the rest of the season. Immune if that particular season isnt as inspired as the year before. Guillo Tine del Toro directed this years opening couch gag sequence and it is an instant classic. It opens with a nibble fromWorld War Zand plows through classic horror like a chainsaw in Texas....

Shadow Warrior PC review

The 90s FPS classic is back in rebooted form, but should you still not mess with Lo Wang? The games style was almost identical toDuke 3D, only with far more gore. As with the original title, melee combat is featured thanks to Wangs expertise with the katana sword. These abilities are learned using the games power up system. Now, this is hardly a unique tactic, and many games use this method with decent results....

French vocab and sycophancy belch out in equal measure. Words like habitue and soupcon have to be swallowed down and replaced by less ostentatious fellows. I say things like ostentatious.
