Hitchcock’s classic gets the high definition treatment.
Mark’s been checking out North By Northwest on Blu-ray…
In some aspects it harks back to a previous era of paranoia best represented by Hitchcocks ownThe Thirty-nine Steps.
Except here the enemy is those trading US secrets, presumably to the communists, and not German spies.
Hes infinitely watchable, almost whatever hes doing.
However, there are at least a couple of unintentionally hilarious sequences to modern sensibilities.
For a modern audience if that doesnt illicit a giggle, Im not sure what would.
On DVD these inconsistencies would have been largely absorbed, but in Blu-ray they can be disconcerting.
I especially enjoyed the 2003 TCM documentaryCary Grant: A Class Apart, which is almost 90 minutes long.
