Mortal Kombat 11 is pure gold at its bloody heart, but the bells and whistles don’t impress.
Our US chums reviewed the PS4 version… Is this latest outing an evolution for the studio or has NetherRealm already perfected the formula?
The game certainly isnt perfect, but it gets the important stuff right.
The core gameplay is arguably the best its ever been.
Mainly, the gameplay feels a bit slower, but also more hard-hitting.
Theres more weight to your movements and attacks.
Each Crushing Blow can only be done once a match.
The last bunch of NetherRealm games featured a segmented super meter system.
In previous games, this was the catch-all system for performing enhanced moves, wake-ups and supers.

Noob Saibots scythe just went through that guys skull and brain!
You dont recuperate from that unless youre Deadpool!
Fatalities are back, though.
Each fighter has two, except for the final boss, who has one really long one.
The highlights definitely belong to Johnny Cage, who breaks the fourth wall in both instances.

Every Sonya scene is easy to laugh at.
Then Sonya opens her mouth and pulls you completely out of the game.
On the upside, the graphics are an absolute treat in this game.
Not only do the fights look great, but the facial animations are completely on-point.
Much of the rest of the game is the usual package of modes.
Nothing different from howInjustice 2played it and thats fine.
Theres also the Challenge Towers, which has lost its lustre inMortal Kombat 11.
This time around, Challenge Towers mainly exists for the sake of grinding for koins and the occasional unlockable.
Speaking of unlockables, the Krypt returns.
It used to be a simple, enjoyable way to unlock costumes, concept art, and so on.
Luckily, Challenge Towers and the Krypt arent the most important parts of the package.
Mortal Kombat 11 is out now for PS4, Xbox One, Switch and PC.
