So, lets start with the main event.
How did you get involved inTed 2?
Seth Macfarlane and I met when we doingFamily Guy.
So we kind of initiated Seth into our little club like that.
and thats how it started.
You know, he wasnt like that.
He wasnt like Hey Michael!
It was talking with a friend about your work.
In the movie theres a fairly lengthy sequence which appears to have been filmed at New York Comic Con.
Was that actually NYCC, and when did you shoot it?
It was a year ago now!
The exteriors were in New York, but the interiors were actually in LA.
They recreated the whole thing inside the convention centre in LA, so it wasnt the actual convention.
So when youre at a convention, is it possible for you to get around without being bothered?
Do people look for you or do you get away with it because theyre looking for Worf?
Well, Ive never gone to a convention in make-up.
So when Seth said thats what were going to do, I thought itd be fun.
I thought the joke would be funnier if Michael Dorn had the worst Worf make-up that anyones ever had.
I imagine youve done the make-up thing enough times as well.
I just went what was I thinking!?
Is that something youd like to do more of?
The funny thing is that I did a lot of sitcoms before and afterStar Trek.
and Im like well yeah, I know, thats why you hired me, remember?
You know, the truth is that Ive always been grateful for work.
That puts you in the top .1% of all actors in Hollywood.
Im not concerned about how that might negatively affect anything.
I dont care what you do to me!
So no, I never had an issue with typecasting.
They said oh, wed love to have you in our movie.
I did many, many movies because ofStar Trek, so it was no bad thing.
I wonder if it mightve been different if Id been out of make-up and identifiable.
If something comes up, great, but Id say its probably done.
But its not a negative thing.
Which is not difficult, because theres so much out there.
Wed be free to do what we wanted to do.
We dont have Paramount and CBS telling us what we can and cant do.
And that way you get to keep all the money!
I think its a good idea.
If TV doesnt push the envelope in terms of sex and graphic violence, itll be left behind.
Its almost like its necessary to be successful.
Reality is stranger than fiction any time.
Thats why theWorf Chroniclesidea was right in that wheelhouse, because the Klingon Empire is gritty.
It does have a dark quality.
[The PR person tells us our time is up.
I can watch that over and over again!
Michael Dorn, thank you very much.
