The martial arts master Jackie Chan made some amazing movies.
Yet, outside the genre fandom, he rarely seems to get the respect he deserves as a filmmaker.
There hadnt been a film quite likeProject Abefore.
But then, Jackie Chan is no stranger to crazy.
But really, the storys a foundation on which to build everything else that makesProject Aso stunning.
On a technical level, its exceptional.
Chans adoration of silent cinema comes to the fore here, blending action and classic comedy like never before.
InProject As most memorable scene, Chan pays direct homage to Lloyds famousSafety Last!stunt.
I have absolutely no idea how he isnt dead.
I mean, he lands ON.
Man should be dead.
But he didnt just live.
He did the stunt THREE TIMES (all of which are shown in the movie).
There is such a thing as gravity!
Its almost impossible to watch this stunt and not experience SOME kind of reaction.
This all combines to makeProject Aa ferocious piece of entertainment.
Project A IIgets a bad rap in that its a sequel to such a beloved fan fave.
If the film has a flaw, its that theres just too much to take in.
Seriously, there are so many stunts per minute (per second in some scenes!)
that I found myself getting a little jaded at times and not really noticing just how amazing they were.
There are some genuinely magnificent set-pieces too.
), its guffaw out loud stuff.
I dont think anyones ever emulated Chans hands-on, master-of-all-trades approach that he took to directing in the 80s.
Thats uniquely Jackie Chan.
