Before I talked to Fran Kranz, I thought I was one ofThe Cabin In The Woods biggest fans.

I have the novelisation and the visual companion and I just really, really, really love it.

But Kranz loves it more.

Its kind of hard not to find his enthusiasm contagious.

Here read it for yourself.

Im pretty obsessed with it as well, so youre okay.

So, lets go back to the beginning: how did you get involved with the film?

But my agent said, dont worry about it, just do your best work.

I havent ever talked to him about it explicitly, but I think he probably backed off on purpose.

And thankfully, I think it worked out for the best that way.

Anyway, so I read these crazy fake sides that now I wish Id kept.

Are you a horror fan, generally?

For sure, for sure.

When I was a kid, I would make these incredibly bloody movies in my back yard.

I was constantly making weird blood concoctions; Jello and milk was a good one.

I was constantly ruining clothes and staining my parents walls and stuff.

The audition process was nerve-wracking because I wanted it really badly.

I would sit around brainstorming actors that I thought might be better for the part than me.

It fits, its natural; its like putting on a good shoe or something.

I was a kid in a candy store.

If I wasnt working, I was on set.

And I think Drew respected that.

They had to hold back on putting blood on me, I just wanted more and more.

It was a dream come true.

Its so boring, but Im a big zombie fan.

I thought they did the Buckners so well that that really was great and special for me.

And the ballerina in the elevator, I think Bradley dubbed her ballerina dentata that was a good one.

There was one name on the board that just says Kevin, and everyone was really curious about that.

And the merman, the love affair between Bradley and the merman, that almost steals the movie.

Theres no shortage of monsters!

It was kind of embarrassing, but it was like, why not?

Its kind of like theres nothing left for any other horror movie to do ever again now.

Yeah, thats the thing its the horror film to end all horror films.

I hope people will attempt to surpass it the real challenge is to push the envelope even further.

Its almost like we need to reinvent the way we think about horror movies now.

Like theres nothing left to say in the genre now; this is the final word.

Im glad you feel that way, thats how we feel.

Drew and Joss are the giant evil gods, and its like a genre apocalypse.

Horror is like a wasteland right now and it needs to be built up again.

Youre like Josss favourite apocalypse instigator.

I know, its good!

Im trying to encourage him to do some reshoots onMuch Adonow where Claudio blows up the world.

[laughs] I dont think it was intentional but Im so happy to be that guy.

What is it like to work with Joss Whedon?

Ill do anything for the guy.

Hes obviously brilliant and funny… Hes my leader and Im the follower, and thats more true with Joss than with most directors.

Hes everything better and wiser than me.

So when I go to set theres a great deal of reverence and respect for the guy.

Lets talk aboutMuch Ado About Nothingfor a minute how did that come about?

But no, he deserves it.

Its hard to believe those three movies came from the same mind, let alone his television work.

He really is a genius.

Weve all known it for a while, but now the world gets to see that.

Do you find that being part of the Whedonverse means youve got a lot of super obsessive fans now?

I love the Whedon fans, because Im a geek too and I like to geek out with them.

You go into Comic-Con, or some other convention, and everyone is so friendly.

Finally, whats your favourite Jason Statham movie?

[Laughs] My favourite Jason Statham movie?

This cant be right, but I think Ive never seen a Jason Statham movie.

I mean, I know who he is… Oh my God.

Bear with me, can I IMDB him?

Ill look through it.

[scrolls through IMDB]

Oh, come on,Lock, Stock, And Two Smoking Barrels!

He was brilliant inThe Pink Panther.

Fran Kranz, thank you very much.
