I think whats interesting about the journey is that we think we can be prepared.
We can only fantasize about what we would do.
The fact that these things we dont think about.
The fact that we dont know if its contained.
We dont know how far spread it is.
You assume that the governments going to take care of it.
you might only connect it to natural disasters, especially in America, more so than terrorism or ISIS.
Thats where you go to when you think of these things.
How did you connect with the character of Liza?
For me, I feel like what I connected with her, shes a strong woman.
Im not a mother, but Im very nurturing and Im [playing] a nursing student.
I think shes also no B.S.
and I have that quality too.
Im sort of a straight shooter.
So I was excited to play her.
I found that she was a really amazing, strong, independent woman.
Shes not just a scorned woman.
So thats not something thats part of it.
The things that drive you crazy will always drive you crazy about them.
I think that happens in this storyline so far.
Were parents first of Christopher.
So were there for each other in that way.
I also have incredible empathy for Madison and the relationship shes having with her children as a mother.
Weve been in each others lives in the three years we havent been together as well.
So I think were really honest with each other and pretty good parents.
So I think its a pretty healthy relationship for the most part.
There are moments of things that were gruesome.
But then I go straight into broad comedy.
So Ill go over to something and want to kiss it.
Just sort of like to really break anything that might be stuck in my conscious of it.
Where youre just like, Oh, this was so real.
Did you have to learn any new skills for the role?
I had to learn, but Liza learns, how to do all these medical things.
Like, it wasnt real, it was still way too much gore.
Way too much blood.
And youre like, this is not my career.
I will never be a nurse or a medical professional.
I thank that there are people that can deal with all of it.
I would have fainted.
For me, it does absolutely.
Especially when we were shooting in Vancouver.
Theres a whole area where they have a lot of homeless people because theyve closed down allthese mental institutions.
I couldnt walk through there without being like, All these people right here could be walkers.
Everything about it felt like an apocalypse.
The way they live.
My brain was like, They could all be infected.
Its around us every second of the day.
Theres absolutely an intrigue.
How can there not be?
Whether this is a genre or not, it is looking into a microscope.
The theme, the sense of, whats in the air?
Whats in the air every second?
Whether we turn on the TV or not.
With constant random shooters.
I dont watch the news because I wouldnt leave the house.
I would not leave the house.
Emotionally, I think its the same thing.
Its the same amount of trauma, anxiety, and fear of the world.
Being from L.A., how do you feel L.A. is represented onFear the Walking Dead?
Im bicoastal, but how many of us have ever been to El Sereno?
So I feel way more connected to Los Angeles than Angelinos.
The farthest you go, you go to Echo Park.
Everyone I know, whether theyre actors or not, go no further than Echo Park and Venice.
Thats their scope, thats it.
Some people have not even gotten out of Burbank.
Almost no one I know.
Ive been bicoastal for a decade.
Have you been to El Sereno?
No, but Ive been further than Burbank and Venice.
My boyfriend was born and raised here.
But there are just places, you know, unless youre going for family or something.
Even though you come withThe Walking Deadname, are you able to feel like Fear is your own show?
It feels like its very much our own.
The producers and creators were very much clear that that was it.
We were the original.
It was so wonderful to have that be what they brought to us.
It was very giving and generous.
Everyones been very generous that way.
