I think theyre having a brilliant time.

You have to pay for it somewhere down the line [laughs].

I think [the Doctor]s moving.

So hes changed to some degree.

But thats really because he has a profound knowledge of the past and the future.

In this incarnation he is, I think, sometimes prone to… Hes wiser than he often says.

On how Claras teaching job fits in to series nine:

Shes still there teaching.

Shes still very busy there.

She amuses me incredibly.

Maisies been onGame Of Thronessince she was twelve!

So shes very, very assured, technically [laughs].

Shell always find her light, she knows where to stand.

She knows all the right questions to ask.

But at the same time you might getGame Of Thronesgossip off of her [laughs].

On welcoming Michelle Gomezs Missy back for series nine:

Michelles fabulous.

The mechanics of that story are slightly different.

[…] Its good, its good.

But its slightly different.

We sort of help each other.

On the return of the Zygons in series nine:

Arent they good?

Theyre fantastic monsters arent they?

I asked him about it.

He was slightly embarrassed I think.

On having the Daleks back in season nine:

So many of them!

Not having them all CGI-created, to actually have a whole pile of them in the room.

Its very exciting, very mobile.

Its lovely to go into that.

I dont know if you saw the set.

It had a lovely kind of sixties feel about it.

On what Jenna Coleman gives him as a performer:

Well, shes great fun.

Were very simpatico in terms of how we like to work, but shes just brilliant.

Thats the thing with Jenna.

So she keeps me on my toes like that.

I think in terms of the Doctor and Clara, its not dissimilar really.

I guess maybe thats developed as weve gone along.

She tries to help him function more successfully with ordinary human beings.

On his chemistry with Jenna Coleman in series eight:

We were sort of instantly in that zone.

She was the first person that came and showed me around the TARDIS and all that stuff.

She was very, very supportive and friendly, as everybody was.

But I always felt Jennas support.

Also we dont plan much, we just turn up and see what each others got in mind.

I might have an idea and it might be garbage.

She might have an idea and that might be garbage.

But somewhere, well come up with something.

I think its easier [not to know].

Im not sure I would be able to act better if I knew.

I still think its important to not be like that.

But no, I think we made good choices.

But I think its right that he grows as a character.

So hes still on that journey, even though it may appear that hes settled into a groove.

I think hes stilland I think they all aretheyre all looking for who they are, hence the title.

On his series nine stunts:

Yeah.

I get good stunts.

Ilovethe stunts because theyre often done and I emerge at the end of them adjusting my wig!

The stunts are good.

I always love stunts onDoctor Who.

Hes going to run over Jon Pertwee!

Thats what I want to do.

The fan and the grown-up professional actorthenot verygrown-up, professional actor!

Im always excited to see a new monster or an old monster.

I have my own relationship with it.

You know, I couldnt be gushing.

Everyone would hate me if I turned up every day and went Oh look!

Theres another rubber monster!

And heres another corridor to run down!

although I do feel like that most of the time!

Someone like Carole Ann, I think she knows how respected she is.

What was it like to be an actor in the sixties?

And of course, shes my granddaughter.

Im always fascinated by that.

On which past Companion hed like his Doctor to meet up with again:

I think theyre all fab.

Katy Manning was fab.

I met her as well, she came along.

The late Lis Sladen of course was fantastic.

They all did a great job.

I met Karen Gillan a few times, she was great fun.

But of the older ones… Ian and Barbara.

At the moment, today Im hankering back to those.

Barbara I think was remarkable.

Yeah, itd be nice to see them.

Its just that we live in a new age so its more communicated and reported.

I think they did as much if not more.

You cant get round everybody.

I dont think I particularly do anything special.

They dont ask very much of you.

[laughs] And also, Id never been through it.

Which is why I kind of have this sack full of guilt, because I simply cant do everything.

But I stress again that I dont think I do any more than anybody else.

On which monster fromDoctor Whos past hed like his Doctor to face:

Theres so many of them.

Just because theyre obscure.

I would like the Daemons.

I think what would be fun.

I think the Daemons would be good because theyre a little bit black-magic-y.

The Axons would be good as well.

I just think theyd be good all modern.

And of course also the Mondassian Cybermen, which I constantly crusade for.

So youre constantly looking for ways to be interesting and entertaining.

Doctor Whois like any other episodic television programme, you often find yourself in similar situations.

So the Doctor often finds himself in a similar place.

How did this dreadful situation happen and why are these monsters here and whats going on?

Because hes much more heroic and braver than I would ever be.

Peter Capaldi, thank you very much!

Doctor Who returns to BBC One on Saturday the 19thof September.
