Heres James review…
Theres something about 80sDoctor Whothat constantly frustrates.
Whether it be issues surrounding the casting (step forward, Beryl Reid!
As with the recently re-released Davison-era stories.KindaandSnakedance,Frontioshas a strong 80s vintage ensemble cast.
So, with so much going forFrontios, what goes wrong?
Sadly forFrontios, it doesnt have Grimwade or Harper behind the camera, but rather the workmanlike Jones.
Certainly his handling of the settlement on Frontios seems to be as good an example of this as any.
Unfortunately forFrontios, they have the Tractators.
For me, though, special mention has to go to the Doctor himself in this story.
Its very well judged and further reinforces quite how modern Davisons Doctor was and continues to be.
Also worth mentioning are some of Bidmeads ideas in this episode.
They too seem to suffer from a lack of attention, care and detail.
Aside from the obligatory making of piece, we also get the similarly obligatory feature commentary.
After the recent baiting of Matthew Waterhouse on theKindacommentary track, this comes as something of a relief.
