But heres the thing.
I say that knowing that its a bit rubbish, but its charming rubbish.
With Ken Dodd soon dead, the bus heads to 1950s Wales rather than Disneyland.
Fortunately, the aliens on the bus assume human form.
But heck, its fun nonsense.
Every criticism you could throw at it probably sticks, after all.
Yet this reviewer would take it overTime And The Raniany day…
The Extras
As with mostDoctor Whodiscs, the extras package here is quite exceptional.
Heres what you get.
Theyre brief interviews, but longer versions are also provided (were coming to them shortly).
Wales Today (2 mins): A brief news report from Wales Today about filming at Barry Island.
Sylvester McCoy and John Nathan Turner give promotional interviews, which are always fun to look back at.
Interview Rushes: This is 16 minutes of raw footage from promotional interviews undertaken for the adventure.
It looks back at Lloyds career, and he engagingly chats us through it.
It includes working with Tony Hancock, as well as the 87 episodes ofHugh And I. Id have been happy for this to run even longer, personally.
These are take it or leave it segments for many, I suspect, but still interesting.
The same is true here.
Trails and Continuity (3 mins): You know the drill here.
The promo clips and segments broadcast on the BBC to promote the serial.
But its still quite good fun, and the extras package along justifies the purchase price, as usual.
Why cant other DVD producers take a leaf out of the Doctor Who Restoration Teams book, we wonder?
