Series five of Doctor Who finally has a bit of a blip.

On paper, the ingredients forAmys Choiceare impressive.

Thats a solid place to start.

Then theres the brilliant Toby Jones drafted in on guest star duties.

Theres a script by Simon Nye, a predominantly comedy writer with a very healthy pedigree.

The basics are fine.

Theyre living in a quiet village, where nothing much happens and theres no obvious threat in the offing.

Which isDoctor Whocode for trouble not being too far away.

And so it proves.

The episode is then effectively held together by Toby Jones, who has to explain whats going on.

Thats as much of the narrative as well talk about here, though.

What well talk about instead is why things dont quite work as well as wed hoped.

To be clear, its not bad telly.

But it never really happens.

There are still, to be fair, some positives here.
