We go on a magical mystery tour of Marvel’s Doctor Strange trailer in a quest for enlightenment.
There are no wisecracks, but plenty of hallucinatory visuals.
And from the looks of things magic is just shorthand for much wider and weirder forces at work.
Or watch it for the first time if you havent seen it.
You know what to do.
So, lets get into it.
Heres what Ive learned so far…
Its an origin story.
Well, not really.
Well, you’ve got the option to forget about that this time around.
Ill take you through it really quickly.
Maybe even Marvel Comics was tiring of origin stories back then.
If you want a quick guide to Doctor Strange comics, just click here.
An arrogant, irresponsible asshole, actually.
And you cant exactly perform brain surgery with shaky hands.
Strange then travels the world looking for something that will fully heal him.
Strange finally meets someone who can help him, but it comes with a price.
You know, things like this.
One of the Docs key tricks is the ability to astral project.
There are villains.
Heres Chiwetel Ejiofor as Baron Mordo, out for a leisurly stroll.
Heres a better look at him…
Which brings me to…
Heres Stephen and Mordo together.
Its likely that theyre sticking close to the comic book origin and early dynamic between these two.
Essentially, Mordo is the Ancient Ones star pupil.
This is our first (official) look at Mads Mikkelsen as the films nameless villain.
You have to figure that the other-dimensional Dormammu is inevitable in this flick.
It might explain the strange, burnt-out eye makeup that hes wearing.
My favorite part of this is how off in the background, things are literally kaleidoscope visuals.
But what about the superhero stuff?
So, yeah, this is an origin story flick.
But that doesnt mean it has to be a superhero movie too.
But seriously, this is all they give us of the costume…
The interesting window is acting like from the interior of Docs Sanctum Sanctorum in New Yorks Greenwich Village.
I dont need to lose any sleep over this, and neither do you.
between the merged realities.
You mean…I have to wait until November 4th to see this movie?!?
Okay, thats not really what he says there.
But heres my big unanswered question with the teach me moment.
Has Stephen Strange been truly humbled by all that the Ancient One has just shown him?
In terms of wider Marvel Universe stuff, I sure didnt spot any.
And thats probably a good thing.
That will certainly come naturally on its own.
