Theres deliberateness to Fassbenders responses and also ease.

He knows this character like a constellation.

When we last saw David in ScottsPrometheus, things werent looking too good for the android.

He also teases just how his Davids relationship has morphed with Shaw in the intervening years betweenPrometheusandCovenant.

Can you talk about the challenge of playing two distinct characters in this film as opposed toPrometheus?

Is it almost like youre doing two films at once?

Not really.

So Walter is really just a very straightforward, logical synthetic really.

Walters just really there to serve the ship and its crew.

David is kind of forced into a duplicitous role taking care of Weyland behind the scenes.

Well, we sort of saw this concept of David witnessing Weyland meeting his creator.

So I think hes moved on.

As we see inAlien, they still havent perfected the androids yet.

What are some of the drawbacks Walter has?

I dont really think he has any to be honest.

Like I say, I think hes a very efficient butler/bodyguard/technician.

I suppose hes more like Bishop.

Whats Walters concept of Daniels?

You know he doesnt have one.

Hes just there to serve her.

He doesnt have that emotional involvement.

He can appreciate it, I suppose, but it just doesnt really come into his world.

When you were makingPrometheus, did you have conversations with how David would develop as a character?

I just got the script, and it was all there really.

I cant take any credit on that front for sure.

Is there a reason, creatively, why Walter and David look exactly alike?

Cause its cheaper [laughs].

I really dont know.

Its been 10 years since weve seen David, whats he been doing during this time?

Well its referenced in the film.

It doesnt go into detail about day one; he doesnt have his calendar or anything.

So that was definitely helpful for me in terms of what has been occupying his time.

You see those traits that we saw inPrometheus his appreciation of beauty, and nature, thats all relevant.

Is David studying the engineers?

These guys created humans, and humans created us.

Theres a legacy of some sort that weve left behind.

Do you spend a good amount of time as a disembodied head as David?

Spent a little bit of that this week [laughs].

Is it just a green spandex body suit?

She took his body as well though, so he does have some use of it.

How did you develop Davids voice?

I dont know, I just watched a lot ofLawrence of Arabia, because he was really into that.

So there is a sort of distinction between the synthetics and the humans on the ship.

How has Davids relationship with Shaw changed?

Like any good marriage its, you know, theres a real affection there between the two of them.

Weve talked a lot today about faith inAlien: Covenant.

Do you think David believes in something greater?

If it really needs to be boiled down.

What does he think of Walter?

I think he sees him as kin in a way.

Do we see more emotional levels in David, more levels of rage?

Playing those kind of things is tricky.

Will we see fear?

I think hes very quick to adapt.

But he is aware of death, yeah.
