X-Men: Apocalypseis a pretty sprawling mutant epic.
How did you come about joining a movie of this size and making the jump into such a blockbuster?
So, I didnt know in the beginning what it was specifically for.
So, I kind of had an inkling, but you never know, right?
I didnt think I was going to get it.
Was that your decision?
Did you go into the second audition or test with that?
It was just really cool to kind of join that little squad.
In this movie, Storm is in a very different place than we have seen in previous films.
Well for me, I wanted Storm to want to go with Apocalypse.
I dont think you’re free to make Storm do anything.
Shes such a natural born leader, a natural born matriarch.
And I think any woman would gravitate towards that.
Were you able to talk with him about that?
I was like, Was that a choice?
What was the thought process behind that?
And he was like, I wanted to show that big moment where Ororo becomes Storm.
Where we really see her have that transformation and that moment that gives the fans the feels.
It made total sense to me the minute he explained it.
I was like, Of course, yes thats what we need!
Me as a Storm fan, I want to see her become Storm.
So I was like, Hi, do you want to run lines?
Do you want to dive into this?
[Laughs] And he was like, Yeah, sure!
It reminded me of Mary Magdalene where she loves him.
Shes not in love, but she doesnt know how to love him, you know?
I wanted my Storm to be completely out of control.
I wanted to show how Halle got there; I wanted to create that arc for the fans.
In addition to the older movies, I understand you did your own research into the X-Men comics universe.
I think that is [Uncanny X-Men#227] if Im not mistaken.
And its just so beautiful to see her at her lowest, and yet still so strong.
I just love that whole plotline.
What from that period would you like to see incorporated in both the films and your character?
I need Storm to just be so grunge, its ridiculous.
I need a grunge Storm, plaid, dirty hair, Im hoping a bowl cut of some sort.
Yeah, I was going to say what about the mohawk?
Do you want that to stay or a new look then?
I like the mohawk, but I like the idea of it being a completely different haircut every time.
It just makes so much sense for me to do it.
Was that part of you developing a camaraderie with the other teammates?
Could you talk about how that Beast Mode video developed?
The Beast Mode idea was definitely Nicks, Nicholas Hoults idea.
You know, hes such a funny guy and hes always doing something.
So, he either has a BB gun on him, or we are making silly Dubmash videos.
Have you and your cast mates talked about taking this party into space?
I mean, I would love that.
It just hasnt gone through up the process.
Has Simon talked to you about where he would like to see your character go in future movies?
Not yet, but theres always time.
