1.Hes the youngest Doctor Who ever, aged just 26.
Peter Davison, the previous youngest Doctor, was 29 when he took on the role.
2.Smith wasnt one of the bookies considerations for the role.
Paterson Joseph and David Morrissey have long been the bookies favourites.
Hence, he went off to study drama instead and embarked on an acting career.

4.Smith has a growing theatre pedigree.
His work has previously attracted Olivier award recognition.
5.He made his television debut inThe Ruby In the Smokeback in 2006, based on the Philip Pullman book.
6.Hes appeared three times alongside Billie Piper.
