Doctor Who Sick Building review

His urgent narration gives the whole thing an exciting pace. His sublime impersonation of David Tennants Doctor is one of the highlights of the disc. The talking toaster is reminiscent of a similar gear voiced by Tony Hawks in an early episode ofRed Dwarf. Talking machines are one thing but machines with feelings and personality make for an engaging and often amusing listen. Spitting Image series 2 DVD

Back when satire on British television was more about edge than crudeness,Spitting Imagewas big. So how does it hold up? This second series started in 1985, and it soon becomes clear that time has done it few favours. Too many of the jokes have lost their potency, removed from the social climate of the time. But it is a problem. The show itself was always hit and miss, but when it does hit, it hits very well....

Stargate Atlantis series 4 volume 4 review

One of the best episodes of Stargate Atlantis can be found on this disc. And one of the worst… Of course, like many things on Atlantis, something is wrong. It wasnt intentiona;, and as far as we know, there isnt even a virus! No, this isnt something that the Atlantis team can fight; its an episode of dealing. Everyone is stuck with the person they would least want to be stuck with....

Slaine: The Horned God review

The warped warrior returns in a classic saga of swords and sorcery, and it’s a 2000AD classic… Slaine is pissed off. Slaine has had enough of their tyranny. The Horned Godwas originally offered in three volumes, all of which are reproduced here. Neither did I, and nor would I ever have guessed. Rating: 5 out of 5

Angus MacLane of Pixar: The Den of Geek interview

The technological advances you must face with every Pixar project seem to us quite dramatic. How does that manifest itself with every new film? you might still affect things in many ways. I dont think it changed that much as we went through the film. So that was established pretty early on. Because you really need to lock it to one piece of software. Maybe therell be an update here and there, and theyll be individual sub-programs developed....

Dracula Origin PC review

But given Im a vampire freak,Dracula Origincaught my eye. At the beginning ofDracula Origin, you play as Professor Van Helsing. A long-standing vampire hunter, Van Helsing knows exactly how to dispatch a vampire should he come across one. And its your job to help him do so. Count Dracula is in London. Having worked this one out, you must now track down the vamp, and kill him. But thats probably not as easy as it seems....

Batman Begins Blu-ray review

At long last, the Dark Knight makes his journey to Blu-ray, with Batman Begins finally released. And gobble them up they truly do. As too does the audio mix. Theres over an hour and a half of material here, but mostly with a distinctive press kit flavour. Its just that this is the kind of film youd thirst for a bit more insight into. Theres not even a deleted scene in sight....

Flat Out Ultimate Carnage PC review

The console racing hit makes it the PC. Slavely, Director of Product Management at Empire Interactive. Other commands refer to other buttons on the Xbox joypad rather than the corresponding keyboard buttons. Its lazy, and smacks of the PC gamer being treated like a second class citizen. Aside from this lazy development, though, this latest version ofFlatOutis a pretty decent arcade racer. Each section has its own cars, tournaments and tracks, with the prizes becoming greater as you progress....

Hellboy II review

Ron checks out the much anticipated Guillermo Del Toro sequel that set the box-office alight at the weekend… It is fairly rare that a franchise survives a studio change. Fortunately for moviegoers, Del Toros return trip into the universe he loves is a treat for the viewer. One piece goes to the humans, and the other two pieces stay with the elves. Journey To The Center Of The Earth 3D review

The 3D movies are coming, and Brendan Fraser is leading the charge! Rob settles down for a funfair ride and a half… Believe the hype, and the next few years will see a cavalcade of 3D movies. Leading the charge is this surprisingly low-key (at least in its promotion) adventure with Brendan Fraser. And this is really the same tactic thatJourneyemploys. Its a fairground ride, nothing more, nothing less. Now granted, to call a film a ride seems harsh, but really this is what it is....

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith PS3 review

The first artist-specific Guitar Hero game is one for the fans rather than the casual player, reckons Mike. One high point is the graphics, which are beyond beautiful. Id like to say its nobodys fault, but it probably is. They should be kicked around like a rag doll when theyre found. Its also a pretty expensive addition to the franchise. Rating: 3 out of 5

Judge Dredd: The Complete Case Files 10 review

368 pages of mid-80s Dredd finds Mega City One’s infamous law enforcer on top form… What a collection it will be when its complete. The background to some of these 20-year-old tales wouldve been interesting to read. Theres no foreword or epilogue either. If the overall presentation was better, this excellent trade paperback wouldve earned that elusive fifth star. Rating: 4 out of 5
