Two decades after it first appeared, Beetlejuice gets a high definition refit. The high definition transfer has come out well, to be fair. The darkness comes across exceptionally well, and the distinct colour palette feels the benefit too. The film, however, is a hoot, perhaps even more so than you may remember. As someone who hadnt seen Beetlejuicefor many years, its surprisingly easy to forget just how good it is....

In the very early stages you were doing some work for Hammer and the like. Can you tell us more about that. Actually, we did one in the Hammer Studios. And we built all the sets, got everything ready. It was actually a really great project. Hes fascinating and it was a perfect marriage between the two. Everyone thought this was frivolous. The story is based in the land of Malaria where you are either a somebody or a nobody. Igor and his trusty sidekicks must pull together and have a go at save Malaria from the evil Schadenfreude. Both the style of animation and the colouring of the film are very dark. The aesthetic is very sharp, as most of the animation has very elongated and pointed attributes. Its interesting and very entertaining....

That had to be a personal favor to somebody. What aboutBringing Down The House, the movie that finally paired Steve Martin with Queen Latifah? Does the Schif have a problem saying no? Isnt he ever just like, You know what? I wrote Mission Impossible. Go find someone else to store your weak buddy comedy from complete and deafening silence.? Lord knows he could probably get away with saying stuff like that....

The football game you could always bank on returns to do battle with FIFA. And, for the first time in donkeys, it loses… Lets deal with the familiar problems first. The graphics too, while improved, are some way behindFIFA. Its also mainly about fixing things. The speed has been brought down a little. Strikers arent quite as good. Penalties are back to normal. Set pieces are no longer an easy way to smash in reliable, regular goals....

These scenes are given greater provocative power by the inclusion of the character of Sadie. Cravens justification for this seems to be to dehumanise Sadie, to somehow make her not like other women. How does he do this? When attempting to escape, Phyllis smacks Sadie with a rock and shouts dyke! There is also the issue of how Mrs Collingwood goes about her revenge. The dialogue here is cringe-inducing tripe, worthy of the most ill-conceived ramblings on erotic fiction websites....

Fast and furious PlayStation 3 racing, the ilk of which we’ve not seen since Motorstorm. These additions make Pure resemble a cross between the frantic racing action ofMotorstormand the trick-fuelled gameplay of PS2 stalwartSSX. Its an infectious combination, and one that combines to create consistently stunning gameplay. Executing tricks gives you more fuel, and the longer you last the better you do. Its simple as are all the game modes but perfectly executed....

Kevin McClory is credited as producer onThunderball. It was also whyNever Say Never Againultimately got made, because its a remake of this story. Its also even more fanciful a romp thanGoldfinger, for those that like more excitement than espionage. The audience knew what to expect by now, and here its delivered by the bucket. How good does it look on Blu-ray? I dont think underwater photography got this good again untilThe Abyss....

But for some reason,Cool Hand Lukehad never made it out of the box. Hes aided terrifically by the supporting cast, of which the standout is surely George Kennedy. Its a film that deliberately takes some time to tell its story, but its time very well spent. Characters are properly fleshed out, and the late Stuart Rosenbergs direction is a career high for him. But dont let anyone tell you thatCool Hand Lukeis anything but Newmans film....
