Magna Carta II Xbox 360 review

A Japanese role playing gaming gets a UK release on Xbox 360? Andrew reviews Magna Carta II… To westerners, Japanese roleplaying games can seem like an odd proposition. Its like hes saying, My gamewillbe your life, and youll like it, because I say so. In other senses, though,Magna Carta IIbears a great many of the dubious hallmarks of the genre. Well, they look much like the women, apart from the lack of breasts on show....

The Box review

The story, like so many of theTwilight Zonescripts, is a simple one. Its a box with a button. They have a choice. What would you do? And possibly a third time. This is a very rich, very dense movie, and I love Richard Kellys intricate oddness. I love a good conspiracy movie anyway, and this is what theX-Filesmovies wish they could have been. Im anxious to get my hands on the DVD....

Torchwood: Consequences book review

Five short Torchwood stories, all together in one book! Dave checks it out. Torchwood: Consequencesis a collection of five short stories by authors known to theDoctor Who/Torchwoodrange. Llewelyn handles it well and it would be interesting to see this story inspire an on-screen adventure. Could the TV series carry off an episode entirely set during this era? I think it probably could. Llewellyn crafts an intriguing story that is well paced and quite interesting....

Year One Blu-ray review

Harold Ramis' latest film failed at the box office. But does Year One deserve a fresh chance on Blu-ray? Im glad I did, as I would have been disappointed if Id made the 50 minute round trip. There are funny moments in the movie, its just really inconsistent. Highlights are easily the exchanges between Jack Blacks Zed and Michael Ceras Oh, which are great at times. The two seem to have a good chemistry between them....

Peep Show Series 6 DVD review

Another excellent series of Peep Show lands on DVD. Mark Oakley checks out the disc… This adds to the shows dynamic, lending some humanity among the chaos. Watching how the kissing scenes are carried out. Cameraman Nick takes much of the credit. The animated feature is a little odd, truth be told. Its a rather witty feature but you wouldnt watch it more than once. Episodes: Rating: 4 out of 5

Eagles Over London Blu-ray review

Before he made the original Inglorious Bastards, Enzo Castellari made Eagles Over London. This film has now been restored by Severin and now released on Blu-ray and DVD. Captain Paul Stevens survives Dunkirk and makes his way back to London. He discovers that the Nazis have stolen various soldiers identities and are somewhere in the UK. What follows is a good old-fashioned war film (it was made in 1969). Ad content continues below...

The Men Who Stare At Goats: Jon Ronson interview

Actually, neither claim was fair. I apologise for making those statements. And heres how it went… Ad content continues below How many times have you seen the film now? It will be the fourth time Ive seen it. I think Michael Moore was quieter, but Bill Murray loved it. Youve probably heard this before, but the vibe I got from the trailer was very Coen Brothers-esque. So, I suppose its a mix of the cast and the bang out of story....

Football Manager 2010 PC/Mac review

Acquaintances no longer appear in their usual places at the pub, desks at work lay empty. But this is no sex specificInvasion Of The BodySnatcherstype err… invasion. For the rest of you, theres only one thing youre going to want to know. Are there enough changes to warrant buying what is intrinsically an update of the previous title? Short answer: yes. Long answer: holy sweet fricking god, yes. With every new game there are always slight changes, be it both aesthetically and with gameplay....

Jimmy Carr: Telling Jokes DVD review

As usual, ironic misogyny is a prominent feature throughout the set. Some audience members look completely horrified when Carr is targeting them. The highlight here is a half-hour Comedy Central special. Overall, Its a solid set and a great addition as an extra thats well worth a watch. There are a number of outtakes from the main set available that are all fairly entertaining. Feature: Jimmy Carr: Telling Jokes (Live)isout now....

Public Enemies Blu-ray review

Michael Mann’s divisive take on John Dillinger’s story makes for a fascinating movie. We check out the Public Enemies Blu-ray… Public Enemiesis absolutely not that film. But this didnt sit well with the powers that be, not least J Edgar Hoover. This approach works in Depps favour, but not necessarily the films. Depp puts in terrific work as Dillinger, exposing the pressures and short term approach of the man. Its a terrific piece of characterisation he manages, suitably far away from Jack Sparrow, and superbly executed....

Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 1 Blu-ray review

The first season of Star Wars: Clone Wars turns up in high definition. Theres also a moral message to each episode, displayed on screen. Its a novel approach that fitsStar Warsand Jedi teaching perfectly. Bizarrely, its probably this lack of real world morality that is the weakest point of the series. Its usually reinforced with how fantastic the good side of The Force is. Obviously, we know differently. We want to shoot lightning and crush throats....

A Christmas Carol review

The Charles Dickens classic tale. But A Christmas Carol might not be the take on the story you’re expecting… Those eyebrow-raisers would, however, do well to note that Robert Zemeckis has now topped this. And its sat there with a PG rating too. Yet, the first shot proper turns out to be a still image of Jacob Marleys corpse. It also sets the tone very much for whats to come....

Interview: Robert Zemeckis talks A Christmas Carol

That they wouldnt stop and think how did they do that until they left. But in 1926, it was on peoples minds a lot. And I think thats whats going to happen, and its happened all through the history of cinema. The fact that you use silence so extensively in the film, for instance. Is sound almost the forgotten art? Well, its crucial to making movies, and I dont think that people give it its due....
