Marvel Super Hero Squad Nintendo DS review

A half decent Marvel title on a Nintendo platform? The game has two elements. Thank goodness then for the Battle Mode which is where the title really shows its cards. All work quite well, although the Classic mode proves the most fun as its just a no-holds-barred scrap. And Spider-Man, obviously, gets to spend a lot of time swinging around and tying up opponents. The Story Mode is a mild distraction and long load times are also a frequent annoyance....

Chris Rock: Kill The Messenger DVD review

A DVD release of Chris Rocks stand-up HBO special, that mashes together great comedy with irritating production. Few stand-up comedians can match the patter and delivery of Chris Rock. The material that Rock delivers is frequently golden, too. And in each venue, he seemingly has the audience eating out of his hand. However, the presentation has all sorts of problems. Firstly, we get on overload of reaction shots here. Worse than that, though, is the gimmicky way that the three shows have been combined....

Lost season 5 Blu-ray review

Try and unravel the mysteries of Lost, as season five arrives in high definition… I treated myself this year. More to the point, I got to try the series for the first time in high definition. On the way, I met a new Disney feature. Bizarrely, it insists that you must create a profile to watch a TV programme! and then itll keep track of where you are. So if youre on disc three, you could pick an episode on disc four....

Cracks review

From the daughter of Ridley Scott comes a superb little movie that may yet attract awards attention. So shes continuing the directorial legacy of a high pedigree lineage. Griping aside,Cracksis a cracking little period piece that tackles that classically British obsession of female sexual frustration/repression. The hero/villain/victim roles are ever changing, which adds pace and fluidity to the story. It also allows the actors a perfect chance to express range....

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre Blu-ray review

A horror classic gets a Blu-ray upgrade. So how does The Texas Chainsaw Massacre fare in high definition? It is all the more tragic in that their acting careers never took off. For them an idyllic summer film shoot became a nightmare. Rather than dwelling on that cheesy introduction (was it really necessary? But if there is, I havent seen it. The effects in the opening shots ofThe Texas Chainsaw Massacrehold up very well in this Blu-ray upgrade....

X-Men Origins: Wolverine Blu-ray review

Hes the best at what he does… shame the same couldnt be said for the filmmakers. Charlie catches up with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine… Biopics are kind of hard to put together. Nevertheless,X-Men Origins: Wolverinetries this out, but its more accurately described as Wolverine & Friends. Warning:spoilersto follow, true believers. But the lack of comprehension is only one of the things wrong withWolverine. First of all: there are too many mutants....

Christopher Lloyd interview: Judge Doom, Santa Buddies & Back to the Future Part III

It was pretty easy though. They were kind of easy to direct. Is that learning from lessons past? Ad content continues below Not necessarily. Ive worked a lot with kids before. They can be very, very difficult, just because theyre kids. But at the same time they give you a lot… He continually had this endless energy for mischief. But he understood intuitively that thats what was also required. He did whatever he did in front of the camera with the same spirit, and it was perfect....

Dylan Moran interview

It wasnt varied enough. It was kind of like in one vein. It wasnt a bad show. I just did it a particular way and it felt a bit like one song over and over. I wanted more variety in it, and then I had a chance to do it again in Sydney. The thing was being taped anyway as they were putting it in cinemas [over there]. It was an opportunity to shoot it again, and I was happier with my performance....

Extract review

Mike Judge, the genius behind Beavis and Butthead and Office Space, has a new film. But not one arriving in the UK anytime soon… The latest film from the director ofOffice SpaceandIdiocracy should carry some kind of cachet, shouldnt it? All of which seems at odds withExtracts predicament. Whats Dan been watching in the last ten years? Frequently laugh out loud so. And to be honest, it struggles to do that to the extent many will be hoping....
