Top 10 Films of the Decade

Rupert picks out his ten best films of the ten years just gone… Lets just have a quick note on the list before we start. Once again, objectivity is key. This is not, as far as possible, my own personal top ten favourite films of the decade. More the ten films I think have defined the decade in one way or another. And, of course, only one per franchise. The cutesy manga look belies a much deeper level of artistry....

Top 10 Stinkers of the Decade

What are the worst films of the past ten years that are best forgotten? Here are Rupert’s suggestions… 10. Catwoman (2004) Poor old Halle Berry. In 2004 her career was on a sky-high trajectory. Without doubt, the worst comic book adaptation of the decade, and arguably of all time. While her superstar status remains, her industry credibility and box office bankability has nosedived. Stephen K Amos: Find The Funny Live DVD review

How does Stephen K Amos debut stand-up DVD fare? Weve been taking a look. But dont let that put you off. His delivery is as strong as always, and his material regularly generates good, solid laughs. They give him a lot to work with, and react well to his routines and jokes. Furthermore, Amos gets a good chunk of his material exploring race, and reactions to it. He actually uses this approach a few times, and again, it serves him well....

Marios and Sonic head to Vancouver in their latest Nintendo Wii pairing… Strangely, though, you just steer by tilting them left or right together. Theres also figure skating and ice hockey, neither of which is particularly satisfying. Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Winter Gamesis out now andavailable from the Den Of Geek Store. Rating: 3 out of 5

Up Nintendo Wii review

This opening salvo is frenetic, disorientating and also really quite difficult. Its like that oldPilotwingsgame on the SNES, but with everything moving at around five times the speed. Ed Asners vocal contributions are particularly welcome and the interplay between Carl and Russell is well portrayed. The way you switch control between Carl and Russell works pretty well, too. Again, its not anything particularly innovative, but it all works. And in a way, that sort of sumsUpup....

Andy Parsons: Britains Got Idiots DVD review

Its a solid theme, that Parsons threads a fine show around. Parsons is at his best when mocking some of the triviality of modern day Britain. Furthermore, he spices up his gig with little clever touches. What comes across is a tight act, that Parsons throws his individual delivery style at. Its a solid performance, that works well on DVD. Check out the 12 minute The Incredible Malt Chocolateness Of Extras if you dont believe us....

The Hurt Locker DVD review

But whereK19s threat a melting nuclear reactor onboard a Russian submarine was clear and recognisable. It isnt so simple for the members of a U.S. Army Bomb Squad deployed in Iraq. Brian Geraghtys rookie Eldridge jokes that the tanks parked idly at their base are useless. Because for them, defusing bombs on the streets of Baghdad, their enemies arent wearing uniforms. Theyre dressed as a civilian carrying a mobile phone that triggers a gear....

17 Christmas films and TV specials that we love to watch

Den Of Geek writers choose some of their favourite festive movie and TV treats. We asked our writers to tell us the one that tops their own list every year. The supporting cast was also excellent, especially Denholm Elliots perfect take on Wainthropes long suffering butler. That does sound rather like a moist toilet tissue, however. Alan Partridge is, for my money, the best comedy creation of the past twenty years....

North By Northwest Blu-ray review

Hitchcock’s classic gets the high definition treatment. Mark’s been checking out North By Northwest on Blu-ray… In some aspects it harks back to a previous era of paranoia best represented by Hitchcocks ownThe Thirty-nine Steps. Except here the enemy is those trading US secrets, presumably to the communists, and not German spies. Hes infinitely watchable, almost whatever hes doing. However, there are at least a couple of unintentionally hilarious sequences to modern sensibilities....

Easy Rider Blu-ray review

Case in point: withEasy Rider, the lunatics were in control of the asylum. The films ending, with spontaneous eruptions of aggression, and abrupt deaths, is more awkward than enlightening. The Disc This 40th anniversary Blu-ray package is actually a little underwhelming. The latter, in particular, is engrossing, entertaining stuff. This isnt an illuminating restoration, however. Film: Easy Rideris out now on Blu-ray andavailable from the Den Of Geek Store. Rating:...
